Weight Gain And Hair Loss

2 months ago my doctor prescribed Pradaxa because I have Dvt. I have other health issues therefore I take quite a few meds. After 1 month on Pradaxa, I said to the doc, there are 2 things a woman doesn't want to happen, 1-gain weight and 2- lose your hair. My genius doc said, hair loss is not a side effect. Told him I don't know where ha gets his info. I took it upon myself to stop Pradaxa. I have been off for 1 week & my hair keeps falling out. Anybody know when the hair loss stops and will your hair come back. To add insult to injury I began to gain weight. I am quite crippled due to severe arthritis in my hips so I don't want to carry any extra weight on my hips. Any ideas when that hunger eases up. Thanks.

Hello, Dee Dee! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems you've having.

Yes, most of these medications are known to cause weight gain, it's really a matter of trying them, until you find one that works, without causing such unwanted side effects. Others, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising.

Please make sure you doctor knows that you have stopped taking it, they should be able to prescribe an alternative medication.

Is there anything else I can help with?
