Wegovy And Skin Sensitivity
UpdatedHas anyone experienced skin sensitivity while on Wegovy? My skin feels like I have a sunburn. It's not hot, but feels real tight and hurts when touched or clothing moves or anything. No rash. Wegovy is the only new thing but it didn't happen til I had been taking it for 6 or 7 weeks.
Yes! I am experiencing this also. Skin feels so sensitive, burning, sore to touch, clothes and touch uncomfortable. Did not start until higher dosages.
I can't find anything listing this as a known side effect. Are either of you on any other medications? Have you consulted your respective doctors?
The FDA lists the typical Wegovy side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, bloating, and heartburn.

Re: VerFree (# 2)
I am not taking any other medications. I did find another message forum where there were many other comments experiencing these same symptoms.
Oh my gosh, me too! Feels like a sunburn! Is this serious enough to stop the ozempic?
Re: Christi (# 4)
My doctor has suggested that I do not use the 2.4mg dose again. I have three left. She would like for me to not use the medicine for three weeks and see if the symptoms subside. Then, she would like to start me back on one of the lower doses.
Re: KT (# 5)
Me too! My skin is so sensitive.. Can we please have an update, after the 3 weeks?
Re: SS (# 6)
Hi! I just passed the 2 week mark since my last injection. The day after 2 weeks, I noticed quite an improvement in how my skin is feeling. I still notice it at times, but it is definitely so much better. I can actually touch my skin without it hurting and my clothes do not seem to be bothering the areas like before. The last 3 days have been so much better. I plan to try to start the medicine back in another week or two, but at a lower dose.
Re: KT (# 7)
Great to hear, KT!
I suspected that it was the injections, that makes me feel like this, but you never know, right? Now I’m positive!
Thanks for the update, and so glad to hear that you’re feeling better!
Re: SS (# 8)
You're welcome! I contacted my doctor today. At first, she wanted to start me back on the 0.5mg dose, but I requested the 1mg , and she agreed. The prescription was sent to the pharmacy, but it usually takes them about a week to get it. I'm just concerned with the shortages on the lower does again and of course, I'm a little nervous to start back. However, I need to. I have already noticed a definite increase in my appetite and amount of food I can eat.
How are you feeling?
ABSOLUTELY! I call them hot spots! My sister was taking it and she was having the same symptoms. She stopped using Wegovy and it went away. I’m still using it and the hot spots come and go.
YES! Exact same thing just started happening to me. My entire back feels like a bad sunburn. Hope it goes away, it's awful!
Yes! My skin is SO sensitive! Touching hurts. Bra, clothing etc. Mostly upper body. It doesn't feel like a sunburn for me. Just very sensitive and uncomfortable. I KNOW it's the medication because my dose was on back order and I didn't take it for almost 2 weeks and the sensitivity was gone. It came back when I started again. I'm having great success with the weight loss so I'll continue taking it for now.
Re: KT (# 1)
I have experienced the same thing. I find no mention of it in any drug literature- and I’m a physician
I have been on this for five months I’m on the 1.7 dose. When I started my month supply of the shots I noticed each time I took the shot I broke out in this rash that felt warm and extremely itchy. Allergist is telling me it is not from the medicine there’s no preservatives in it and I’ve been on it for five months now but it’s just strange that every time I take the shot I break out even worse in this rash. I am now stopping the shot given my body a couple weeks to see as I’ve been tested for allergies and nothing else seems to be the issue
This happens to me too. Does anyone know how to make it feel better, besides stopping the shot?
This has happened to me too. Started after I increased from .25 to .5 ml dose. I am now on 1.7 ml and my skin is still sensitive. It’s noticeable mostly on my back. Quite annoying but not bad enough to make me stop taking Wegovy. I’m losing weight but still have about 50-60 lbs to go. I’m surprised with many others having this reaction, it wasn’t ever discussed in the trials and listed as a side effect. ??
I have not been able to start back on the Wegovy due to not being able to get the lower dosages. My doctor started me on Saxenda until it is available. It has not controlled my appetite like the Wegovy. I have been able to maintain my weight loss with this, but have not lost any additional weight. Are you all having success in getting the dosages that you need?
Re: KT (# 17)
I am having the same skin sensitivity issue. You mentioned after stopping for 2 weeks it wasn't as bad. Now that you have been off it much longer, has the skin sensitivity issue completely disappeared? Thanks
I am on 2.4 mg. Skin sensitivity (feels like a sunburn, clothing hurts, etc.) has become intolerable. Appeared earlier in treatment doses, but was tolerable. Increased with dosage titrations. Never put two and two together until seeing this site. Have seen a dermatologist about the skin problem, but Wegovy was never mentioned as a possible cause. I will take a break from the medicine. It has been very helpful with weight loss, but this skin situation is terribly unpleasant and worrisome. I also have a sore throat for 14 days being treated with Augmentin with no improvement. Wonder if Wegovy is the cause of this, too?
Same here. Feels like a sunburn but not red, and I haven't been out in the sun. Started on Wegovy 2 weeks ago. Annoying but tolerable.

Yes; as the others have described. Feels like a cross between sunburn and working out too hard. It is on my upper torso front and back. I can feel every hair follicle. My armpits are particularly sensitive. I am going to try to see if it goes away with time.
I also have some tingling in my legs and feet, like when your legs fall asleep and come back.
I have skipped two weeks on 1.5 of Wegovy. Started back this week. I have been extremely tired and very cold. These are the first side effects I have experienced since I started Wegovy months ago. Anybody else experiencing this?
Re: Janet (# 10)
Are you still on it? Have the symptoms gone away?
You know... I've been on Mounjaro (related medicine) for over a year at 15 mg. Never had any side effects whatsoever except profound weight loss and appetite suppression (which were actually very welcome for me... lol).
Here recently, I've been feeling this painful sensation on my skin as well. Almost like a nerve-like/neuropathic pain, I guess. It's not burning, stinging, stabbing, throbbing, or anything like that. It's just "pain" is all I can say...
I can only think that maybe it had to do with a few weeks ago, I took 20 mg of Mounjaro because I ran out of 15 mg and it was out of stock, and still had some 10 mg pens, so I took two of them. Maybe that is what is responsible for that?
Maybe it's a side effect of these GLP-1 agonists they haven't discovered yet...
I have that feeling ever since I’ve been on wegovy . Trying to find an over the counter to stop the sun burn feeling . Good luck
Re: KT (# 21)
Yes - I have had the same skin issues, just feels tingly and sensitive - no pain. I mentioned this to my doctor and stated that I have read where others have had the same symptoms. She told me she hadn't heard that and that I probably had allergies. The sensitivity didn't start until I started 2.4. I notice it goes away after 4-5 days of my shot and starts up again the day after my weekly shot. thanks everyone, now I don't feel like I have some neurological disease.
I just did my second dose of the 2.4mg Wegovy last Tuesday. I never had an issue with it before. Then I woke up Sunday and my upper inner thigh feels sunburned and a couple of my toes. No rash or anything, but it hurts to touch, walk or clothes touching my skin. Feels like fire.
Re: KT (# 1)
Yes! me too. it travels around though. may be in my back for a week or two, then upper thigh, then back of my ankle.
