Unfortunately, the way current U.S. FDA and DEA regulations stand, being pain free is not actually a right. I do agree with you that it should be, so please don't misunderstand, I've been in miserable pain myself and I don't think anyone should have to deal with it, I am just telling everyone how the laws currently stand.

As they are, at the moment, no doctor is required to treat you, or prescribe any medication, unless you are in immediate life-threatening danger. If you are stable, they may refuse to treat you, refuse prescribing any medications, or dismiss you as a patient at their discretion.

Additionally, the DEA has issued directives that no one should be given more than the equivalent of 120mgs of Morphine per day, and some states have lowered it even further to no more than the equivalent of 100mgs of Morphine per day.

Exceptions are made, however, for those who are suffering severe, intractable pain from a condition that is possibly fatal, such as stage 4 cancer.

I have lost track of the number of people that are in absolute misery due to such nonsense.

Can anyone chime in with their experiences?
