Watson Is Now Actavis Generic Percocet 5/325 What Is Up With This (Page 6)

Updated

I had been taking 5/325 generic Watson percocet for 4 years. Suddenly I get notified by Walgreens which I have insurance that there is no more Watson brand and I was given generic percocet 5/325 by Actavis. It is not the same at all. It has no pain relief for me. I used to break the watsons in half sometimes and never had a funny taste. I just broke one of the actavis white tablets in half and it immediately tasted like salt or alka seltzer? Has anyone had any issues with this drug too. Also, along with it not working right it has made my GI tract and stomach so ill feeling and cramping. This is not right how can they take away a medicine that someone has been on for 4 years without any problems and tell them to suddenly switch. Would a peson who has been on a certain heart medication for years be told to suddenly switch that he can't get that medicine anymore? I don't think so. I don't know what I am going to do but when it comes time to have my rx re-filled it will not be with Actavis and I will have to pharmacy shop I guess to see if I can find Watson. I am very depressed now and so unhappy I can't believe it.

Jan,
Your welcome. I remember being scared to try a new brand. One thing I didn't want to forget to mention is I noticed them being slightly stronger. When I went back to watson after being on them for about 6 weeks or so, my pain came back and I had a harder time switching back to watson. I liked the fact they controlled the pain longer and as a result of being in less pain, I had more energy and didn't need them around the clock. But you may notice them being a little stronger then watson. When I would take half they didn't have a funny taste. I also slept better on them. I was getting better nights sleep. Of course we all react differently to medications so I just hope they work for you. The pharmacist said people can react to the inactive ingredients in a medication. I am so sensitive when it comes to meds. Keep me posted. I haven't tried qualitest. I did take that brand of lortab years ago but I didn't have anything to compare it to. It was amneal that made me so sick and that was awful. I found this site when I found out walgreens was using Actavis now and I was already planning on switching back to the mallinckrodt brand but wondered what people were saying about the new brand. Good luck!!

Hello. I just replied back to you and it said it's need to be reviewed. I hope it works well for you. Did you try the qualitest brand or hear bad things? I haven't tried that brand. I did take that brand Lortab years ago but I didn't have anything to compare to. It was my first pain med. Hopefully my other post shows up after it's reviewed. Keep me posted and good luck.

Hi Jan, I just read a post from you saying you are going to try the qaualitiest not the mallinkroft have you changed your mind? I was supposed to get my rx re-filled on Thursday but have been so sick first with strep throat and now have thrush due to the antibiotics they gave me being too strong and i had a reaction. So if I can get out I will try and re-fill it - but still don't know what to do. This is truely a mess. A friend just went to the urgent care and was given Lortab. When he went to Walgreens yesterday to fill it they gave him generic WATSON. Now how can that be? Is Watson still making hydrocodone and not oxycodone? He didn't ask any questions because he didn't even realize what is going on with no watsons since he never took oxycodone. Martin, I wanted to know how you are managing now? Any better? Also, are you still taking the Actavis? I have the bottle in the kitchen cabinet and will never touch another one of those. I have been without any prescription pain meds now for over 3 weeks. This is my own personal experience but I hope I get the right pain pill this next time because i CANNOT go through another withdrawal I just don't have it in me - the withdrawals are as bad as they say they are and for me the depression and crying everyday is just something I never saw coming as I am a very happy person in general. Hope everyone finds relief.

Lola, I think if they have watson left in stock they will use those. I have a good relationship with my pharmacist and he said people are doing fine with the new brand. He hasn't had any complaints he said. I tried amneal once so I can relate to the misery a pill can cause.

I am almost in panic mode! Last week, Safeway said they had mallinckrodt, and today they are saying they have Avtavis! I called Belair, who last week also had mallinckrodt, and they said they don't have anything until Tuesday. I have a feeling, it's going to be Actavis. This is terrible! If I would have know the date on the script said the 14th, I would have checked with the U.C.D. pharmacy before I left. I will keep checking around, but I am getting really nervous!

Hi Jan, so sorry to hear about that and you are right it may be that the pharmacies are going to be Actavis however as I said in an earlier post I contacted Target and Publix - don't know if you have Publix by you but both of these places said they carry Mallinkrofdt. Try calling Target and see what they tell you.

Hi Ladies,

Lisa, thanks for posting. I may try Mallinkroft
Lola,
I still dont feel well but not as bad. I still take the Actavis but not many. They work for about 20 minutes, whoopee. How are you feeling Lola? My depression and side effects have gotten a little better, not much. Please let us know what you fill with and if it works. So sorry you are not feeling well.
Jan,
Cant beleive this is happening to you. The Maillincroft sounded good, I called my local hospital pharmacy and they carry the Mallincroft brand. It seems the hospital would carry good meds. But now I am worried per your post that they all will go to Actavis. Please let us know what you do.
I have my doc appt on Tuesday. Dont know what to tell him now. i was gonna try the Mallincroft but not if there just gonna change to Actavis. Rather go with brand Oxycodone. This three weeks has been hell. Worst of my life.
I hope we all find an answer. i had several posts that said they had to be reviewed and the never showed up. One I had put my email address to offer others help but I guess you can't do that. I tried. Please keep us all updated ladies. Thanks.

Martin

I have a call In to Watson and I'm going to call Monday to try and find out what happened. It seems like they are Actavis now but they have been for a while now. Do you have a costco? That's where I got mine. How about Rite aid?

Also Watsons are listed on the actavis website. So it looks like they are still making them. I don't know what the deal is. I hope you have luck finding the Mallinckrodt.

You may notice the mallinckrodt are slightly stronger then watson. I noticed it right away but I adjusted easily and didn't need as much. I wrote that in my post that said it needed to be reviewed.

I will have to find out where I can get this brand that you say is working my target doesn't have a pharmacy and I don't have a publix. But your saying it's better than watson? That would be amazing as these he has to take a lot of to get pain relief but then the side effects are awful. And actavis is suppose to be Watson but in 3 months we haven't had any. I will look into that brand and see if I can find it anywhere.

Sorry Lola...ive been busy n haven't checked my email or been on the internet much...I honestly dont remember what they said they used...if u dont have a Kroger near u I can call again n ask. Are u sure they r no longer making watson? My w algreens pharmacist told me something about using a different warehouse or something like that...they were getting their meds from this one place..warehouse or something but stopped getting them from there nd r using this other location to get their deliveries...I dont remember the exact details cause its been a bit but it was something like that...he didn't tell me theyre no longer making them...even when I mentioned I was aware a new company took over it?

Hey Martin...what about getting the dilaudid meds n break em in half? I took that loooong ago n it worked great....ir maybe try a low dose? If u have a dr who is will give u that without going through a hassle, i wouldnt b sitting around sick nd in pain. I sure hope u can get it all worked out soon...luckily, on a forum such as this one, we can all understand n im sure we all sympathize with u

Hey everyone....just an idea..but when u all go back to the dr, why not ask ur dr to write 3 or 4 different scripts ....with ur month supply divided among the 3...like for example, if u can get the dr to write 3 different scripts, each for 10 pillsm..this way if u fill one of the scripts filled and find the new meds arent working or making u too sick, u wont have to wait for ur 30 days to b up, just the 10 days worth then refill at a different place who carries a different brand. Just a thought.worth a try....even if the dr is only willing to write 2 scripts with 15 days worth of meds...its still better to wait out the 15 than the 30 days.L

Hi Lisa...im reading all these posts saying watson was takin over lby actavis last year and pharmacies started using actavis in december? I know walgreens doesnt stock enough generic percocets to fill whatevrr amount of scripts they usually receive in a month. They usually keep a weeks worth give or take....there has been times i went to fill my script n they didnt have enough to fill a 30 day supply n told me they couldnt fill it till they got their delivery on tuesday....ive been receiving watson from walgreens when ive filled in january nd february...its only this months refill where they gave me actavis. So they had to be receiving watson meds all thru Jan nd feb. If actavis started distributing their meds in December, how was my walgreens still giving me watson brand in January nd February? None of this actavis craps makes any sense!

Hi Jennifer, according to the Actavis website, they are still making the Watson but walgreens said they have no control over what they get. I do believe it is cheaper and maybe due to demand it was all they could send. I have the Mallinckrodt brand and they are stronger then Watson and you notice it when you first switch. I was also reading a thread of people who use the mallinckrodt brand and were given watson and they did not like it. It wasn't strong enough. Everyone's body reacts differently but with the brand I have I don't need as much and I don't get any side effects. But I don't know what is going on that all places are now getting the actavis brand it seems like.

I was on Lortab for years which is hydrocodone and on the actavis website, Watson is still the brand for all the hydrocodone. My friend went off Percocet to hydrocodone 10/325 and she gets Watson brand so I don't think actavis makes that one yet. I have always found percocet to be strong and when I first switched, I did not like it. I have often thought about going back to hydrocodone or a lower dose percocet.

Lisa, thanks for your input and glad to hear the mallinkrofdt brand works for you. It is confusing and what works for one person won't work for another as I have seen many posts on other sites from people complaining about the mallinkrofdt calling it mallincrap lol. I have never used that one but may have to if I can't find any left over Watson. I am sensitive to many medications and sometimes have even had to go to children's dosages because of it. I never found the Watson brand to be too strong - it was just right in my opinoin and never made me loopy or groggy like so many of the opiods have the potential to do. I hate that those of us that have been on Watson for years are now suffering so deeply. I have also read that we should stay away from the generic company Amneal and Alvogen. They are supposed to be just like Actavis oxycodone. I don't think I can switch from oxycodone to hydrocodone because it doesn't touch my pain and makes me sick to my stomach even if I have a snack. I once tried to go that route and take the 10mg. hydrocodone instead of the 5 mg. oxycodone and it just didn't cut it for my neck and nerve pain. I hope someone can find some Watson out there. I hope everyone can find some kind of relief today.

Lola I feel for you. I am very med sensitive myself. Amneal is awful!!!!!! I can't take that brand at all. I had good results with qualitest but that was lortab not percocet. I liked that one a lot. Well it looks like they are still making watson. They are listed on the actavis site so maybe they have a shortage again? Maybe walgreens will get them again. What side effects did you have from the new ones? I have heard awful things about them. Even some people went to the hospital sick from them. This is very sad. I hope they get the Watsons back for you. I am going to ask them when I call tomorrow and will let you know.
