Watson Is Now Actavis Generic Percocet 5/325 What Is Up With This (Page 29)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I had been taking 5/325 generic Watson percocet for 4 years. Suddenly I get notified by Walgreens which I have insurance that there is no more Watson brand and I was given generic percocet 5/325 by Actavis. It is not the same at all. It has no pain relief for me. I used to break the watsons in half sometimes and never had a funny taste. I just broke one of the actavis white tablets in half and it immediately tasted like salt or alka seltzer? Has anyone had any issues with this drug too. Also, along with it not working right it has made my GI tract and stomach so ill feeling and cramping. This is not right how can they take away a medicine that someone has been on for 4 years without any problems and tell them to suddenly switch. Would a peson who has been on a certain heart medication for years be told to suddenly switch that he can't get that medicine anymore? I don't think so. I don't know what I am going to do but when it comes time to have my rx re-filled it will not be with Actavis and I will have to pharmacy shop I guess to see if I can find Watson. I am very depressed now and so unhappy I can't believe it.

Hi Jan, sounds like you were able to get alot done today that is great - always helps to try and stay busy. May I ask are you taking the 10mg. or 5 mg. If you are taking the 10 mg. sounds like these mallinkrofdt are not that strong if you took 4 in 2 hours. That's good that you didn't have any stomach issues. What about euphoria feeling with these? I don't care for the euphoria or drowsy feeling. I never felt that with the Watsons but I was only taking the 5 mg. and I see most people were taking the 10 mg. Thanks for any input it is really appreciated.

Hi Lisa, and everyone.

I shampooed the dining room today. I can't go any further though, too much pain. I guess the jury is still out, as far as effectiveness goes with the Mallinckrodt. So far my stomach is fine, but in an eight hour period, I think I've taken about 4 pills. If I do housework that's kind of strenuous, I have to take more pain medication. All in all so far it's not that great at pain relief. As I said before, it could take some time as this is just the 3rd day. By the end of 30 days, the Actavis had gotten a (little) better at pain relief. Not enough to make me want to get it again though! I guess I will try to stick with this brand unless they change. I don't think Mallinckrodt is going anywhere though, they have been around over 100 years. If anyone hears of something better, please let me know When I take 2 pills within 4 hrs. I do get very drowsy. Fortunately, I am home a lot right now. I do plan on finding a dance class, to try to take my mind off the pain. I hope everyone finds something that works.

Hi Jan, thanks for posting on your experience with the mallinkrofdt brand. Since you refiled on Saturday how do you feel today? Do you notice if they help or not? Do you feel any side effects? What about feeling groggy with this one? Hope everyone has a good day.

Martin I wish I had some answers. What about qualitest brand? I do think they are hard to find. I had the qualitest lortab and they were great. I don't know much about the percocet though. It sounds like you need to find another good brand that works but then you run into the issue of not always being able to get that brand if they run out. Unless you find someone to order them for you. When I took lortab years ago the pharmacist ordered them for me so I always had the qualitest brand.

Martin I would make sure whatever medication you try next is still being made by watson. I only asked about the percocet. I read posts about people who took mallinckrodt first and found watson weak and that was my experience after being on the new brand for a month. I had zero side effects it was just stronger.

I just spoke to Actavis. Watson percocet has been discontinued she said. Watson brand in other medications is available but not percocet. I couldn't take dilaudid. I had it after surgery and it made me very sick and gave me an awful headache. I did get an upset stomach from vicodin before and percocet until I got used to it. This is sad for people who love watson percocet.

Hello all,

This is all so ver confusing. I go to the doctor tomorrow. Jan, it soundsl ike the Mallincroft didnt quite hit you right away. Maybe it will take time. It seems we would notice right away. With the Actavis. I noticed right away they didnt do anything and after 3 days started to feel sick.
Lisa, I sort of found the Watson's to be too strong also. I would take a half to start with and then go from there. Vicodin does nothing for me. No pain relief and stomach problems.
Not sure what to do now. I will see what the doctor says. Actavis aspirin for 3 weeks and i am unhappy camper. My current PA had said we could try Dilaudid if all else failed. I would prefer a Watson type pill that is trong and works. I dont think they are making Watson's anymore. I really think they took it off the market for political reasons. Too strong for some and people were overdosing. Doc appt tomorrow, maybe I can get a script for 10 days and see how it goes. I'm at 21 days now anyway. They will probably be mad at me for taking too many Actavis. But they were so weak I had to. It could have casue high blood pressure and given me a stroke. Not gonna follow that route. Any suggestions out there? Thanks

I shouldn't say much stronger. Slightly stronger. But I also have a different dose so that can make a difference. I think I want to lower my dose or change to vicodin. I probably should lower my dose first before I make any changes. The percocet works for me it is just a little strong.

Hi Jan, what is your dose? I have the 10/325 and I have to break them in half compared to the watson. Now I usually get bad stomach upset from generics and these never caused that for me. The watson didn't either. I just noticed when going from watson, they were much stronger. No funny taste. Did the actavis upset your stomach? I think any change in brands you need an adjusyment period especially since they differ slightly in strength. I think my problem is the 10/325 are to strong for me. I even felt that with the watson and would often break them in half.

Hi Martin and everyone, I called around after I found out Safeway switched to Actavis. I thought about Raley's so I called them and thankfully, they had the mallinckrodt brand. We don't have one in the immediate area anymore, so I hopped on the freeway and after 3 attempts to get my birthday correct, I finally got it filled. anyway, I took one right away and didn't feel too much of anything. Now mind you, I had already had 2 Actavis earlier in the day. That was Saturday the 15th, so I'm not sure I've given it much of a chance yet. It might take a week or so, for my body to make the adjustment. I wish my doctor would have increased the strength, but I'm afraid to ask again. I don't want to lose what I have. I feel like I've been taking a lot of the new brand since yesterday, and I know I'll have to slow down or run out early. Tomorrow, I will have to monitor my amount and stay within my daily allotment. I have noticed, these pills have number 512 on them like percocet usually has. I think this brand will probably be better that Qualitest, but I can't speak from experience. I think next time, I will get them filled at the hospital pharmacy.

Lola I feel for you. I am very med sensitive myself. Amneal is awful!!!!!! I can't take that brand at all. I had good results with qualitest but that was lortab not percocet. I liked that one a lot. Well it looks like they are still making watson. They are listed on the actavis site so maybe they have a shortage again? Maybe walgreens will get them again. What side effects did you have from the new ones? I have heard awful things about them. Even some people went to the hospital sick from them. This is very sad. I hope they get the Watsons back for you. I am going to ask them when I call tomorrow and will let you know.

Lisa, thanks for your input and glad to hear the mallinkrofdt brand works for you. It is confusing and what works for one person won't work for another as I have seen many posts on other sites from people complaining about the mallinkrofdt calling it mallincrap lol. I have never used that one but may have to if I can't find any left over Watson. I am sensitive to many medications and sometimes have even had to go to children's dosages because of it. I never found the Watson brand to be too strong - it was just right in my opinoin and never made me loopy or groggy like so many of the opiods have the potential to do. I hate that those of us that have been on Watson for years are now suffering so deeply. I have also read that we should stay away from the generic company Amneal and Alvogen. They are supposed to be just like Actavis oxycodone. I don't think I can switch from oxycodone to hydrocodone because it doesn't touch my pain and makes me sick to my stomach even if I have a snack. I once tried to go that route and take the 10mg. hydrocodone instead of the 5 mg. oxycodone and it just didn't cut it for my neck and nerve pain. I hope someone can find some Watson out there. I hope everyone can find some kind of relief today.

I was on Lortab for years which is hydrocodone and on the actavis website, Watson is still the brand for all the hydrocodone. My friend went off Percocet to hydrocodone 10/325 and she gets Watson brand so I don't think actavis makes that one yet. I have always found percocet to be strong and when I first switched, I did not like it. I have often thought about going back to hydrocodone or a lower dose percocet.

Hi Jennifer, according to the Actavis website, they are still making the Watson but walgreens said they have no control over what they get. I do believe it is cheaper and maybe due to demand it was all they could send. I have the Mallinckrodt brand and they are stronger then Watson and you notice it when you first switch. I was also reading a thread of people who use the mallinckrodt brand and were given watson and they did not like it. It wasn't strong enough. Everyone's body reacts differently but with the brand I have I don't need as much and I don't get any side effects. But I don't know what is going on that all places are now getting the actavis brand it seems like.

Hi Lisa...im reading all these posts saying watson was takin over lby actavis last year and pharmacies started using actavis in december? I know walgreens doesnt stock enough generic percocets to fill whatevrr amount of scripts they usually receive in a month. They usually keep a weeks worth give or take....there has been times i went to fill my script n they didnt have enough to fill a 30 day supply n told me they couldnt fill it till they got their delivery on tuesday....ive been receiving watson from walgreens when ive filled in january nd february...its only this months refill where they gave me actavis. So they had to be receiving watson meds all thru Jan nd feb. If actavis started distributing their meds in December, how was my walgreens still giving me watson brand in January nd February? None of this actavis craps makes any sense!

Hey everyone....just an idea..but when u all go back to the dr, why not ask ur dr to write 3 or 4 different scripts ....with ur month supply divided among the 3...like for example, if u can get the dr to write 3 different scripts, each for 10 pillsm..this way if u fill one of the scripts filled and find the new meds arent working or making u too sick, u wont have to wait for ur 30 days to b up, just the 10 days worth then refill at a different place who carries a different brand. Just a thought.worth a try....even if the dr is only willing to write 2 scripts with 15 days worth of meds...its still better to wait out the 15 than the 30 days.L

Hey Martin...what about getting the dilaudid meds n break em in half? I took that loooong ago n it worked great....ir maybe try a low dose? If u have a dr who is will give u that without going through a hassle, i wouldnt b sitting around sick nd in pain. I sure hope u can get it all worked out soon...luckily, on a forum such as this one, we can all understand n im sure we all sympathize with u

Sorry Lola...ive been busy n haven't checked my email or been on the internet much...I honestly dont remember what they said they used...if u dont have a Kroger near u I can call again n ask. Are u sure they r no longer making watson? My w algreens pharmacist told me something about using a different warehouse or something like that...they were getting their meds from this one place..warehouse or something but stopped getting them from there nd r using this other location to get their deliveries...I dont remember the exact details cause its been a bit but it was something like that...he didn't tell me theyre no longer making them...even when I mentioned I was aware a new company took over it?

I will have to find out where I can get this brand that you say is working my target doesn't have a pharmacy and I don't have a publix. But your saying it's better than watson? That would be amazing as these he has to take a lot of to get pain relief but then the side effects are awful. And actavis is suppose to be Watson but in 3 months we haven't had any. I will look into that brand and see if I can find it anywhere.

You may notice the mallinckrodt are slightly stronger then watson. I noticed it right away but I adjusted easily and didn't need as much. I wrote that in my post that said it needed to be reviewed.
