Watson Is Now Actavis Generic Percocet 5/325 What Is Up With This (Page 23)

Updated

I had been taking 5/325 generic Watson percocet for 4 years. Suddenly I get notified by Walgreens which I have insurance that there is no more Watson brand and I was given generic percocet 5/325 by Actavis. It is not the same at all. It has no pain relief for me. I used to break the watsons in half sometimes and never had a funny taste. I just broke one of the actavis white tablets in half and it immediately tasted like salt or alka seltzer? Has anyone had any issues with this drug too. Also, along with it not working right it has made my GI tract and stomach so ill feeling and cramping. This is not right how can they take away a medicine that someone has been on for 4 years without any problems and tell them to suddenly switch. Would a peson who has been on a certain heart medication for years be told to suddenly switch that he can't get that medicine anymore? I don't think so. I don't know what I am going to do but when it comes time to have my rx re-filled it will not be with Actavis and I will have to pharmacy shop I guess to see if I can find Watson. I am very depressed now and so unhappy I can't believe it.

My husband just had his RX filled for Percocet, I have not filled mine..I had to take one of his for pain of replaced disk. If I do not get the generic will that make a difference in my pain pill??? I really am upset to finally get my back fixed and need pain meds for about 4 more month and the Percocets were working until April and I do not have Watson on the pill and it is oblong and I can not swallow so had to break it apart. Any suggestion's?

Hi Mary,
From what I've heard on this forum, the fact that it's generic doesn't seem to make much difference. You may be able to speak to a pharmacist, about the pill being too large. I wish you the best with your recovery.

Mary, Generic or brand doesnt matter in pain relief. ...Watson's were a generic n if u read through all the posts n threads, u will find Watson's were the best when in need of pain relief. ...unfortunately, those are no longer an option anymore. The best thing for u to do is read thru the threads n see what pain meds people have taken in their search for a new pain relief medication n how well it worked. Then come to ur own conclusion on which to try but dont wait till u need it...do ur research assp. Some of these meds are hard to find n u may have to h o from one pharmacy to another to find the one that carries what ur looking for....for example. ..ive been taking endocet. I had to reach out to every pharmacy in town n not only till I contacted the last one on my lidt did I find what I needed. Goid luck!

Hi Ya'll:

Well I had my 3 month appt today. I had a minor stroke a month ago due to high BP. The watsons used to reduce my BP. The new meds didnt. So I asked for Oxycodone IR with just 10-15 Dilaudids for emergency when my headache and pain get to a 9 (2-3 weeks) that puts my life in jeopardy. I had a PA and she had to ask the doctor. The doctor said no becasue they would be "inappropriate". I asked why but they could not explain. Not a happy camper. So back to Percocet 10-325's. I get my meds at the hospital now. They carry Mallinkrodt. I hope they work. I will let you guys know how they work for me. Anyone taking Mallinkrodt? Sad that I cannot get the proper pain relief becasue of drig addicts. Thats America today yay!

Hi Martin, sorry to hear about not being able to get the dilaudid. I was also going to ask my pm doctor about getting those too. I see him this Monday but now I may not even ask. I am still taking the percodan but would also like something for break through pain now. Seems if I do more I am in pain more. Still am pining for the Watsons can you believe that even after all this time. Martin I believe Jan takes the Mallinkrofdt maybe she can tell you if they are still working for her. I know some people like them and others hate them calling them mallincrap lol. But maybe they will work for you. Let us know when you can if you have any side effects etc. I am going to ask for percocet again so I will be looking for another manufacturer as well. I don't know if my pm doctor is going to keep me on the Watson percodans forever.

Just Read through all these comments about The Generic Percocet by Actavis. I will try RiteAid next month based on all the feed back. I just went on last month after being on many pain meds for the last 11 yrs for back issues. I have had the worst stomach aches and felt like my stomach is just on fire most of the time. I had no idea it could be linked to the maker etc. Thanks for all the post and good luck to all that suffer this terrible wheel of pain.

My sister just had surgery on Monday and they prescribed Hydrocodone for her. I went to the pharmacy in the hospital and they manufacturer they had was Qualitest. Then the doctor prescribed Dilaudid in its place for better relief and the manufacturer was Mallinkrodt...anyway, it occurred to me that the way to go is probably to take my prescription it to a hospital pharmacy next time I get it filled...it appears the hospitals are not ordering from Actavis, as cost is not a factor in their order.

Wow quiet on here,

Anyways update from me. I am on the Mallinkrodt and keeping my fingers crossed so far so good. They work decent for pain. Not as good as Watson but they do work. And hardly any side effects. Maybe some constipation so far. been on them a week. The biggest thing with Mallinkrodt is I feel like they give me more energy or more importantly dont make me tired in the morning. So that is a big plus. I think that we all react differently to diff meds but so far the Mallins work well for me.
Anyone else?

Thank you all for your comments. At least I am not alone. And it is not me but the sell out Watson ti an INDIA company. Who really knows what we are taking. I know I had to get back on my stomach pills due to the side effect. I am wondering if doctors know this new percocet is not working? This new stuff is not working it seems for so many. I wish I could afford the real pill and not the generic. I just know it is not helping my pain go away

Updating since a few weeks ago. I switched from Walgreen to Walmart on my Percocet. I can hold off longer to take the next one and the stomach burning and pains are all gone. Interesting. Especially since they are the same strength and about half the size. Thanks for all the advice everyone posted. It sure helped me.

Hi Tracy, but which manufacturer are you using now? Which one does Walmart carry? I just got a new rx from my pm doctor and one of the rx is for percocet again. I dont know what to do because I am afraid to get another dud Still taking the percodan by Watson but he gave me the percocet now too. I have been to two mom and pop places and they are all liars. They tell you they dont even stock it yeah right - they just are so afraid of getting robbed.

Hey lola...Im sorry ur still going thru all this! Why did he put u on Percocet if Percodan has been working for u? Have u tried the endocet? I remember u saying something about them but I cant recall what. Have u or tracy read the article I posted? I found another article too about these 2 brothers who were pm drs who got arrested n r in prison for their huge pain pill operation in florida that seems to have been the beginning of the crack down that went on in Florida. I may post it for the hell of it. It seems the more u know, the more u understand what s going on....at least for me.

Hi Jennifer, I tried the endocet a long time ago when this all first started and it didn't agree with me. Are you taking the endocet now? I think my doctor put me on percocet again because this time he raised it to the 10 mg. I used to take the 5 mg. and the percodan is only 5 mg. so I think for break thru pain. I don't know he doesn't talk so go figure. I am just happy to have at least something for pain but I am finding it harder and harder to even get the percocet filled unless I want Acta crap from Walgreens but NO WAY still have the old ones and never touched another one after that first incident. I wonder how many people are really taking that Actavis. I will have to read your article sounds interesting. MARTIN - if you are still reading these posts you mentioned awhile back you started taking the Mallinkroft how is it working for you if you don't mind sharing any info. Would like to get some input before I get another re-fill on the percocet.

Lola....ive tried the mallinkrodt before....they were ok....I feel as if the endocet is a tad better for me. I also dont think endocet has all that waxy coating that slows its metabolism down....I prefer it that way so it kicks in sooner. I think the mallinkrodt is worth a shot for u. Heres another interesting one on how the drug deterant meds work..........

I will get refilled today and post again when I can. I have been getting 15 day supply to make sure it works for me. I don't see the manufacture's name on the bottle, but when I fill later I will ask and let you know. I had terrible stomach cramping and burning all day long with the Walgreen brand Activas and it is all gone. I do know these new ones are about half the size as well. Sorry I can't answer now, but I promise to get back to you. You can ask your doctor to let you bring back old script and let him dispose and let you try a new pharmacy if it is bad. Mine let me so I hope your's is as kind if you can't wait for my post tonight.
