Watson 5-325 Oxycodone
UpdatedI was getting watson 5-325 oxycodone from a pharmacy that my health insurance recently dropped from my coverage. The other pharmacies in my area do not carry the watson brand. I've tried 3 different pharmacies 3 different manufacturers and none seem to work as well as the watsons. I'm down to my last pharmacy which carries endocet brand of the oxycodone I need. Has anyone had any experience with the endocet? or any helpful advice for me?
Thanks in advance...

Have you tried asking the pharmacies if they can order the one manufactured by Watson in for you?
Most of them can do so, but you would be responsible for the price difference between their usual generic and what the one from Watson costs.

The Endocet, however, may work well, because it is a brand name manufactured by Endo Pharmaceuticals, just like the Percocet.
I havent asked. I didnt know the pharm could order a different product than what they dispense. I also didnt realize there was such a difference in the effectiveness of the product from different manufacturers. Im sure my system is adjusted to the watsons, but the effectiveness of the other manufacturers meds dont compare. (at least for me) maybe I'll try the endocet and see if its comparable. I hate to have to double dose just to get the same relief.
Thanks again
I agree with the previous poster........in addition to that,
I remember in 1978 when, Endo Pharmaceutical, had a patent, on "Percocet", and, my Dentist, prescribed me 1 dozen of these, from the original patent holder, as generic Percocet, (5 mg oxycodone with 325 mg of
acetaminophen) was not available by a generic firm. Source: 1978 PDR page 411 (picture) and page 857, product description. Also, Watson Pharmaceuticals, have a outstanding reputation especially for their opiate and benzo generics, have always been a challenge to locate. Watson Pharma, stopped advertising their products, like many pharma firms, have at a astonishing rate, with the Physicians Desk Reference, long the Bible Guide for Physicians, IMHO, the PDR, cannot be relied on, as much as in the past, due to several unknowns, I can only assume, for cost containment, as, pharmaceutical firms, always pay to have their ethical pharmaceutical listed in the PDR. The Watson 749 embossment white round scored tablets, were advertised in the 2007 PDR page 3386. (5/325's)
Also, the 113th year of publication, of REDBOOK, year 2009, does not list, Watson Pharmaceuticals, under the Oxycodone/APAP section, of the last edition of this book, which has a subtitle, as "Pharmacy's Fundamental Reference", primarily used to disclose, Average Wholesale Prices, and Orange Book ratings.
"The Orange Book ratings, with over 20 tier levels, has,
Endocet 5/325 pills, listed as a very rare AA rating, the final step up". Why? As previously stated, Endo, was the original patent holder of Percocet, and relabeled, it when the patent ran out many years ago, it is produced by Endo's Generic division. Finally, I only discovered myself, within the past 3 years, the immense differences, in generic, due to so many complaints on "Many generic drugs on the internet" The facts, are, the FDA does regulate, generics of course, but, only the Bioequivalence, of the core chemical formula, and, the law states, that there is no controls, or mention, of any FDA testing, of the Bioavailability of any generic drug, (how the body breaks down the fillers and buffers, which, can vary from 80 to 120% when compared to the patented drug formula "copy". Cheap fillers, can make a substantial difference in how it effects each individual, especially controlled release, formulations, also, with no controls, by our FDA, on the
"Bioavailability".......only, the "Bioequivalence" has to test out at 80% generic minimum against, the core formula of the original patented drug. Examples, of well known, extremely, high variances in effects on the individual, were the 16 generic manufacturer's who, scrambled to get their share of Sanofi "Ambien" when the patent expired in April, of 2007, a Google search, will reveal scores, of unsatisfied patients, including myself. Source: REDBOOK 2009, the "Printed Version" after 113 years of publication, was discontinued in 2009, and, is only available, on a CD-ROM package, running the cost up ten fold, thus, out of reach of most, consumers budget, to order the "data" published again by PDR Inc, distributed by Thomson Reuters. I know this for a fact, and was given a price quote, "took my breath away" for the 2010 edition. The medical book industry, PDR & REDBOOK, while both still headquartered out of Montvale NJ, has gone thru, significant changes, in the past 8 years, after decades of consistent reliability and info data availability, as I have 20 PDR's spanning 40 years, and, "something changed within the publisher, after the year 2002, including two name changes, Medical Economics, and, another LLC, and now a withdrawal of some significant drug manufacturer participatiion in the current PDR. It is a huge loss in the information age to not have available the astonishing price changes that have occurred in Average Wholesale Price's in the A to Z of drugs, including, 30 to 40 year old drugs, that have increased incredibly in price, not practical to print.
Finally, the Oxycodone Express media frenzy, and, IMHO, the demonization of a very effective pain med, when prescribed for appropriate reasons, has, caused, a wild shift in who produces any product, containing Oxycodone.
"Endocet" National Drug Code 60961-0602-70 AWP $57.67 for one hundred tabs of 5mg Oxy+325mg Apap
year 2009, page 415 of REDBOOK ISBN #9781563637063. "Endocet" also available to USA pharmacies in bottles of 500 count, with slight discount, and a slight variation of NDC code.
Ridgerunner007,
Thanks for the informative reply on this medication. I also agree with your quote, "Oxycodone express media frenzy, and, IMHO, the demonization of a very effective pain med, when prescribed for appropriate reasons."
This medication helps me cope with my chronic pain and through daily activities.
I know for a fact, that generic medications of this product differ GREATLY from one to the other.
As for now, I tried both Endo Pharmaceutical products. While the brand name 'Percocet' helped with the pain longer than their generic version 'Endocet' I cant justify paying the difference in price because my insurance doesnt cover the same cost percentage of 'brand name' medication. ($10 for generics)
