Was Diagnosis Drug Depend
UpdatedI went to new pain magement doctor because my old one no long took my insurance. I was on 7.5 325 hydrocoden and in between I went to my orthro she gave oxycodone 10 that work better for my lower back pain. At the first visited to we pm was told he did not agree with my ortho about my back and he did not believe in using pain meds I should have never been placed on them. Had no problem at old pm she had agreed with ortho that my back was bad. Come to find out he coded me with a diagnosis code 304 that's is drug dependant. My question is what is this going to do to me with insurance and other doctors. I was never kick out of other pm just needed to find one that would take my insurance.

Being drug dependent is not the same as being diagnosed as being addicted. Dependence happens to everyone when they've been taking something for a very long period of time, especially with narcotic analgesics.
It will likely make some doctors prescribe very carefully, but it should not blacklist you from being able to see doctors and get required medications.
However, if this doctor felt you'd been mismanaged, that is something you should definitely get a second opinion on. There are times that taking such medications can actually worsen some conditions.
Is there anything else I can help with?
Oh they screwed you. It's going to be tough to get someone to remove that code. Only the Dr that applied the code can remove it. If he thinks you're 'drug dependent' he won't change it and it will follow you from Dr to Dr because now it's in your permanent record. The records all Doctors and Pharmacist adhere to. It's not fair. I don't like Drs that assume that most people lite about pain to get pain meds. I'm on Methadone and Morphine three times a day. I live in pain everyday. I have spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, arthritis and fibromyalgia. So painful and I couldn't imagine someone labeling me the way they labled you. If I were you I'd stay making calls. Go see the Drb that attached that code to your records and ask why he did that without telling you he thought or assumed you were a 'drug seeker.' Good luck!
