Warfarin/coumadin Alternatives

I have been on Coumadin/Warfarin for about a year. there was a point where i was taken off of the medication and now I have recently began taking it again. With this round of medication I am feeling very out of sorts like my head is just not on right. Are there any alternatives? Drug was or even homeopathic to aid in blood thinning? I was prescribed because of DVT. Thanks much

There are some others that people sometimes use, but you will need to discuss them with your doctor to evaluate them in respect to your health problem.

One that is very commonly used is Aspirin:

Many people take a low-dose tablet of it daily for its blood thinning action.

Another one on the market is Plavix, which contains the active ingredient Clopidogrel:

In the way of herbal supplements, Sassafras root, which is often drunk as a tea, is known for its blood thinning properties:

Is there any medicine that can be substituted exactly
for Plavix ? Plavix is so expensive and being on
retirement income we need to save where I can.
If there is nothing to substitue. Tell me what they used
years ago in it's place.

Terrence, the main alternative medication available would be Warfarin, though using it requires regular blood tests at your doctor's office and it is not considered as safe as Plavix.

There aren't really a lot of options on the market, right now. In the past, the medication that was mainly used was Heparin.

And it, as well as similar medications, are given by injection, so it would also require regular trips to your doctor.
