I'm not sure what they told you, but it actually isn't that these types of prescriptions can't be filled anymore, it's that there are stricter regulations on them.
The Methyltestosterone in them falls under the anabolic steroids act and the laws pertaining to them weren't being enforced for many years in regards to HRT medications, the FDA and DEA have started cracking down and making pharmacies follow the law to the letter.
That means that there are strict limits on the number of refills you can have on the prescription, so you will have to see your doctor every few months and get a new prescription in order to continue getting it filled.

Were you trying to get it filled on a refill, or was it a new prescription?
I tried refilling my prescription for Estrogenmtest 2 days ago at a Walmart in New Mexico and was told the FDA had pulled the medication.
my prescription is only for a 3 refills at a time. I see my Dr every 3 months before she writes a new prescription.
My insurance will not let my refill for estrogenmtest to be refilled as January 2017. Reason given is that this drug was previously grandfathered in and now FDA is making the drug company go through proper approvals. My insurance is CVS/Caremark and refuses to email the document showing the FDA decision to pull the drug. I calied my doctors office and stated only my insurance is doing this.
What is the truth? I Have been on this drug for years.
I also tried to fill the prescription with CVS pharmacy and was told the same story. FDA has pulled approval of the drug. I was told to see my doctor for an alternative. My doctor is continuing to prescribe this medication for all other patients with no problem. He gave me a prescription for Estrace and had a compound creme made by a pharmacy which costs 4 times the amount of the original drug. The insurance will pay for part of the cost.
Both pharmacies were willing to sell me the original prescription without insurance but I cannot afford to pay the high costs.
I'm not sure why only my insurance refuses to pay at all.
Do you have any further insight as to what is really happening? Can a single insurance company do this legally?
