Visine Lr Discontinued? (Page 5)
UpdatedHaving problems finding this product. Has it been discontinued and if so, do you know why?
I, like everyone else here, suffer from red eyes. I've tried very eye drop on the market, and nothing works like Visine LR. I like you cannot find the product anywhere. I called Johnson & Johnson yesterday, April 23, 2010, and they confirmed that the product has not been discontinued, but they had trouble with their new distributor. It will be back on the shelves within 6-8 weeks.
Until then, the Afrin Nasal Spray works just the same as Visine LR. A little better, really. This is the first time my eyes have been white since I ran out of my LR one month ago. The B&L didn't work for me at all and everything else is garbage. It's pretty much the same ingredients and will serve as a substitute until the real thing comes out.
I have just ordered some visine workplace through canada pharmacy online. it has the same ingredients as vlr. for some reason it is packaged differently in canada.
whoa! Although Afrin Nasal Spray contains the active ingredient Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride, it also contains other ingredients (not in VLR) that should not be put in your eyes. I wouldn't recommend it. If you want a safe replacement as VLR, order Visine Workplace from Canada. There are several online distributors and it contains the exact same ingredients as VLR. Good luck
I'm in ATL and can't find Visine LR in any part of the area. Based on the previous posts, I'll search online.
I'm in Louisiana and I like everyone else can't find Visine LR. I just purchased Visine for Red Eyes Workplace, the Canadian Version of Visine LR, online through Feelbest.com.
I also have not been able to find Visine LR, and have been able to order Visine Workplace (same product that is marketed in Canada) at CanadaPharmacy.ca
I noticed that there are other allergy products on the market which contain the same key ingredient as Visine LR called Oxymetazoline. The only thing is that they come as a nasal spray and the proportion of Oxymetazoline is a higher dose.
Here is an example:
Visine LR contained Oxymetazoline HCl 0.025% as the active ingredient along with Benzalkonium Chloride, Boric Acid, Edetate Disodium, Purified Water, Sodium Borate, and Sodium Chloride as the inactive ingredients.
A nasal spray such as Afrin contains Oxymetazoline HCI 0.05% as the active ingredient along with Benzalkonium Chloride Solution, Benzyl Alcohol, Edetate Disodium, Polyethylene Glycol, Povidone, Propylene Glycol, Purified Water, Sodium Phosphate Dibasic, Sodium Phosphate Monobasic as the inactive ingredients.
A saline solution called Advanced Eye Relief Eye Wash made by Bausch & Lomb contains Purified Water as the main ingredient along with Boric Acid, Sodium Borate, Sodium Chloride, Hydrochloric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Edetate Disodium 0.025%, and Sorbic Acid 0.1% as the inactive ingredients.
If you were to mix 2 parts Afrin with 1 part Eye Wash you would essentially dilute it from being 0.05% Oxymetazoline HCl to 0.025%, the same proportion as in the original Visine LR! Just be sure to mix it as accurately as possible (you can use the sterile cup included with the eye wash) and then place the mixture back into a sterile eye drop container which is empty.
Hopefully this will help some of you. Please exercise caution and proceed at your own risk. This is not intended to be medical advice. The above products are available over the counter and aren't expensive at all.

Advanced Eye Relief Eye Wash
Best of luck!
I think the people who want Visine LR should order the Visine for Workplace from Canada. All that mixing or using Nosedrops in your eyes could be dangerous.
i live in sc, loyal fan of visine lr, had same problem finding, found a small medical supply company here with plenty 1oz bottles of visine lr, want to buy from me, $50 a bottle includes regular post shipping, this is not a joke or some sort of scam, but if i am going to do this i am going to make a profit.
I ordered 6 bottles of visine workplace @ 5 dollars each from canadapharmacy online on 4/20 and it arrived on 4/26. with 10 dollars shipping the total cost was 40.00. it is the same ingredients as VLR.
No LR in the south eastern region of the the states either. Like others, I have been from store to store in search for Visine LR and it is not here. I've wasted more money on other products trying to find a substitute but nothing else works. Visine, GET OFF YOUR A@# and get the product to the the end users. We are hurting out here!
Here is a link to Visine Workplace which, as Jessie stated, contains the same active ingredient and dosage. This is an over the counter product so it should be okay to import into the United States.
Yes Roy you are correct. I live in New Jersey and there were no problems with delivery.
Tracy, are you a chemist? You are providing bad advice. Do you even know what Polyethylene Glycol, Povidone, Propylene Glycol is? As I stated earlier, a safe substitute exists so anyone looking for Visine LR should buy Visine Workplace. Do not put nose drops in your eyes regardless how diluted you make it.
For those of you who have ordered the Visine Workplace from Canada,
have you experienced any problems?
Regarding Tracy's substitute recipe, I would be FAR more concerned about the Hydrochloric Acid and Sodium Hydrochloride in the eye wash product than Polyethelyne/Propylene Glycol. The glycols are already found in many eye drop products. But Sodium Hydrochloride is Lye--drain opener. And HCl? Stomach acid. Either one on its own would burn a hole right through the eye ball and halfway through the brain. Why they are ingredients of an eye wash product in the first place is an unfathomable mystery to me.
Christina, I ordred 6 bottles of workplace and recieved it in 5 days. the ingredients are the same as our beloved VLR and I have been using it for 2 days with no problems.
As soon as I get the Visine Workplace from Canada, I will let everyone know. I will be able to tell almost immediately if its the same formula. I'm sure it is. It was shipped yesterday, and they say to allow 2 weeks for delivery.
Mike, they told me 2 weeks and it came in 5 days. I opened it up as soon as it came and compaired it to my vlr and it is the same stuff. I've been using it as I always did and I see no difference.
