I ALSO cannot find Visine LR eyedrops. I called Visine and they
said they were still making it and
sent me to various stores that were suppose to have it. Guess what?
Not one of the stores had it!

Just found at Amazon.com. Not cheap but better than being without. Have not found anywhere for 2 weeks. It's for a 3 pack of 1 oz and says "In Stock" for the time being...

The Visine site still lists it as available and shows where it can be purchased online. They do not list it as having been discontinued or anything.

The active ingredient in it is Oxymetazoline, which helps relieve redness of the eyes.

Has anyone tried seeing if your stores carry an alternative brand with the same ingredient? Your pharmacist might know if they do.

It's now available online all over

Visine LR seems to have mysteriously disappeared from store shelves nationwide. The same active ingredient (oxymetazoline) can be found in Claritin Allergy eyedrops as well as Ocu-clear, if you can find them.

Whats the deal? I bought last bottle at Publix Supermarket over 2 weeks ago and now nobody has it. CVS still has a UPC sticker on shelf. Walgreens and Target don't carry anymore.

I contacted Visine on 3-4-10, and they ARE making the LR product, but they admit to have issues with distribution. They said the issue should be reolved shortly and to check on their website for updates.

Yeah. I am in the same boat. Looked everywhere for the LR. Definitely the only stuff that works. WTF...

As of 3-10-10 ... Drugstore.com (claims) to have LR in stock. Again, Visine is NOT discontinuing this product. Just a temporary distribution glitch. I called them today !!!!

What's the concern about our elusive Visine LR (which works for me) and narrow angle glaucoma (which I have)???

Same problem in Memphis..Walgreens, Rite Aid..even Kroger Supermarket has a slot for Visine LR but nothing there. I've never seen EVERY store sold out of them. They've literally pulled what was left off the shelf. I'm not buying the Distribution Problem..but what's up?..Especially since Visine says they haven't discontinued it (??)

Bought some from Amazon today. About 3 dollars more than I usually pay. mmmm, one theory..Visine just put out a new drop called Visine Multi-Symptom. The Visine LR Magically disappeared at about the same time. Maybe it's just a marketing ploy..force people into trying the new product...I'm just sayin'

Re: Melikahiwa (# 1053) Expand Referenced Message

The makers of Upneeq paid off J&J to stop producing Visine LR so they could charge $199 for 30 single-use vials of oxymetazoline once it became FDA-approved for ptosis (eyelid drooping).

Re: Christina (# 538) Expand Referenced Message

my guess is J&J made a deal to stop production or someone on the board has an interest in the RVL company that markets (and just doubled the price) of Upneeq - the same active ingredient

Basically, they found that a concentration of 0.10% helped with ptosis(eyelid drooping) and now Oxymetazaline is only available with a prescription and now holds the brandname "Upneeq". $150 for a 30-day supply. I'm scared to try the Afrin, but I may do so to see how it works...

Re: Melikahiwa (# 1053) Expand Referenced Message

I thought the exact same thing. And I paid $145 for 45 vials (1 dose for both eyes) which was a "discounted" price. My theory is that Upneeq is much more costly for the consumer= bigger profit for pharma. Furthermore, it states that rebound redness "may" occur as no studies have been done after 45 days.

Re: Melikahiwa (# 1053) Expand Referenced Message

It had Everything to do with the disappearance of all its competitors. And...once the competitors were bought off, they raised the price dramatically.

Re: Melikahiwa (# 1053) Expand Referenced Message

It absolutely did! The company making Upneeq wants to have a monopoly on the ingredient in eye drops so they can drive prices up.

Re: Rhonda (# 1032) Expand Referenced Message

This may sound crazy, but growing up my sister had severe red eyes due to allergies and the Dr. prescribed drops with cocaine (HCL or CL possibly) and rose hips or rose water. They got rid of redness and itching very effectively. Something you might want to ask the Dr. about.

Re: Meenal (# 1030) Expand Referenced Message

I have tried samples of Upneeq (oxymetazoline HCL .1 %) which really helped my droopy eyelid which was affecting vision. I didn't like the fact that the pharmacy which sells it had an exclusive right to sell this and didn't accept insurance and had raised their prices 67 percent in the last year, so I found other drops with oxymetazoline HCL. Was the Visine drop effective at the lower concentration? I have ordered the Cendro Asthenof to try which is 1/4 concentration of the prescription.
