I still have fits about one per month. perhaps when i see the doctor again he will up it but does anyone taking it have side affects? I had one in bed on sunday and i am still tired in fact exausted! one of the side affects is tiredness but i have never felt like this, in fact i won't stay on computer long, i just wanted to know if anyone else who takes it is realy tired.

Becarful don't take him off cold turkey with out doctor supervision in hospital I was taking off 4 days ago the with draws aren't fun but I was put in the hospital under observations I'm still having symptoms.I was on 50mg 6time a day
Is somebody taking Vimpat alone. My doctor started me with 50 g of Vimpat and then slowly incread week by week and now I am on Vimpat 200 g. I was reading that vimpat is taken with some other seizure medicine. Is that correct. This was my first instance of seizure.
my husband has been epileptic for 39 years, he has been on phenobarbital 32.4 mg and depakene for years, took himself off the depaken years ago. in the 19 years we have been married he had 3 seizures until 6 months ago. he began having 3 or 4 a day, went to the nuerologist and was put on Vimpat. Neurologist never figured out why the seizures increased ( I did) and it was not cause for more meds, but anyway he was put on this medicine and since then has become increasingly sleepy, confused, trouble seeing, depressed and suicidal. So for those of you who have seizures that are really not extensive and you have lived with them this long I do not know that this medicine would be right for all. I have noticed in other posts that those who take it with Keppra seem to have success. In our case, it did not help it made a situation worse. By the way, the cause for the increased seizures was zinc poisoning due to Poligrip denture cream.
We Discontinued the Vimpat and the seizures were bad--grand mal every day for nine days so we increased the topomax from 300 to 300mg/day and he did great-- just one seizure this week-- more alert and laughing like he used to. Good luck to everyone--we're done with Vimpat for good
Peace`~`
My son has uncontrolled seizures and on multiple meds. He has been on Vimpat for about 2 months. We are in the process of taking him off. He is tired all the time and his tremors seem to be worse. I dont think there is any change in seizure activity. I hope it works for some, just not right drug for my son.
hi verwon, your right as taking vimpat does make you tired + i will probably be put on a higher dose and it will make me ever more tired but it has been the best pill in 30 yrs. to control my fits so it's worth it dandy,
hi will, yes it makes you tired, drowsy. at the minute i'm on 100mg twice daily. yesterday i slept after lunch for about 2 hrs. but today didn't so it depends on what u r put on the smaller amount the better but if u need more go ahead and try it as it might help your fits, tiredness or not. dandy
i'm sorry teresa that u r taking your son of vimpat as i thought it would b good for alot of people with epilepsy but obviously your son has alot more than the epilepsy so good luck. dandy,
Hi Dandy,
I plan on discontinuing the Vimpat -it's quality of life issue. He's too tired to walk in the walker and falls over alot just side sitting or crawling around. It's probably harder on him since he has low muscle tone / cerebral palsy.
Best of Luck on it-- I hope it works for you
hi will, how long have u had epilepsy and how many pills have u tried. as i said i'm 60 and my epilepsy came back 30yrs ago and i have tried lots of pills until vimpat came out NEW, that's what pleased me as it was new and of course scientist today know more about alot of things in the brain and other illnesses which is why i tried it. after my coma i didn't want to go to my doctor but was made to nicely by my sister and nurses etc., when he said new i immediately agreed to trying it and in 30 years it is the only one that has worked. so you won't know until you try and as the doc., said you don't have to keep taking it if you don't like it so i hope u will try. jacqui,
hi teresa, i'm sorry about your son his lungs etc., if you could tell me more about him since birth i might be able to think of something but i won't promise. i slept after lunch as i was tired. i blame vimpat but if it almost keeping fits away i'm pleased. had one in bed 2 nights ago so i'm not completely out of the woods yet but at least it was in bed didn't hurt myself. i had to change bed and duvet which got dried on line this morning. dandy
Vimpat contains the active ingredient Lacosamide.
Drowsiness is a common side effects to this class of medications, if it is bothersome, you should speak to your doctor, you may need a dosage adustment or a different medication.

I have not taken Vimpat yet but I was gathering as much info as possible
does it make A person that drowsy
Dandy,
We dropped the dose from 300mg to 200mg/ day. He was too tired and agitated on the higher dose. He recovers from a grand mall a lot quicker than before Vimpat. He can be up 1/2 hr after a seizure with good tone and energy. Before he'd be passed out most of the day and be limp. That 's a major improvement. His lungs are clearer because of that alone.
His frequency of seizures hasn't changed that much-about one grandmal/week---so I'm not sure about Vimpat yet but maybe more time is needed--I'm glad it's working for you.
take care
Teresa
as i've said before i haven't much more to say except that i haven't had any more big fits since the one in bed. the side effects of vimpat, quite a lot but then there are side effects with any drug in fact all pills but if it is helping my fits then i will put up with them. teresa your son is on a higher one than me so what is the side effects like for him and is it helping his fits?
my doctor just talked about this new drug yesterday and I'm wondering how other people that take it feel about it
teresa, i can't think of much more i can tell you. you r having problems with your son and only a doctor could help. as i said i have had it all my life and am only getting controlled after 2nd birth. your son is young and hopefully he will grow out of it or if u saw news today a young boy who had around 30 or more fits daily had an op., half brain removed and has now no fits, surely u attend a doctor for him, if so ask what he thinks. things about brain illnesses are moving on quickly. good luck.
jacqui,
My son just went up from 300 to 400mg Vimpat / day-- he's very tired We are trying to wean Topomax. My son can't talk so I don't know how he feels--- He wiggles and moans at night --is there upset stomach symptoms? - is there an adjustment period to the med? His Seizures may have improved but I don't know if he feels lousy--- would like opinions from someone on the drug.....
