Going to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?
Thanks!
I too have noticed fuzzy hair at the top of my head in addition to it thinning out since beginning Viibryd 2 1/2 months ago. It does help with depression but my long hair looks awful. I know your post was a year ago, but how is your hair now? Do you still take V? I would appreciate any information you have.
Very possible that any SSRI can bring on nightmares for those that are pre-disposed.
Most sharp doctors will tell people to do a sleep lab study to map out the sleep attributes and see what is going on with the sleep patterns. Sometimes there are sleep related issues that ought to be evaluated by a sleep doctor specialist. Then on those results, the SSRI should be dropped or changed if the nightmares are that bad. But at other times, a pro sleep doctor can come up with solutions and allow the patient to stay on their SSRI.
I have been on Viibryd for approximately 7 months. With a regular dosage of 20mg for 3 of those months and then a ramp up to 40mg. I have been on a cycle down to wean myself off completly. Based on my experiences and everything that I have read about this drug (see: Viibryd night terrors, nightmares), I would strongly urge people to not start this drug at all. The initial side effects listed are accurate and can subside relatively quickly - the nausea, headaches, sleeplessness, fuzzy feeling - the longer range side effects are real and very frightening. The nightmares that are a direct result of this medication are impossible to describe. The closest I can come is to imagine your body is in a coma-like state, yet your mind is being tortured by hallucinations and visions - you cannot move, scream or escape from it. Awful and well documented from many users. The labeling on this product needs to be reviewed. BEWARE!
You know our body is one heck of a container of highly complex chemicals. It changes with what we eat and drink. It changes on Vit & Min too. Any drug can produce side effects or take longer to work or only work with the right dosage. That is the variable from each person. You are you! This is your body chemistry dealing with a new set of molecules entering the system. I like really your courage and fortitude to tough it out. I sense you may be much more determined to win this effort than you give yourself credit. You are winning it seems! The effort is paying off. Reward yourself in some way. Do something soon that you know you enjoy--whatever it is! You deserve it. My best.
Something is wrong here and the doctor has to know and help you. This is way too long for side effects to dissipate. Hope you get good answers from your dr.
Ok so I have been on viibryd for over a month ,and I would have to totally agree with you joe about stepping up slower on the vii, I can tell you this medicine is not to be toyed with, but coming off of a high dose of celexa to a low dose of viibryd was hard! read my posts further down you can see my progress just by reading them , slowly getting better each time , yes a doctor should tell you if you should ever cut pills , but all it takes is one call, and in my case that's exactly what he told me to do, last week he upped me to 40mg but I decided to cut them to 30mg , ill start 40 next week and this has honestly been the best idea and made me wish that I had steped up that slowly to begin with, maybe the side effects would not have been so traumatic , at one point I was seriously going to stop all meds all together , it was very scary and overwhelming , not to mention the worsening of depression, but as an update obviously I am feeling much better since I have stared 30mg and am glad i did not stop!I still have to take ADHD medication to have energy but yesterday I went without pretty fine , I'm basically testing myself to see where my physical boundaries lie with this stuff. A word of advice : I have been through it ALL with this drug and I can say it is one hell of a drug at that, never have I experienced such side effects , not to mention I am 23 and 105 lbs, but I am beginning to feel glad I did , it's hard to believe after reading many blogs with very negative feedback about this drug could turn any one away , but stick with it ! It's mind over matter always !
Been on Viibryd for 9 weeks of HELL! At first I thought I caught the flu, then on set of sudden cry spells, hallucienations, sweats, chills, shakiness, major ADD, now stomach cramps. This is some bad medicine for me!
Sometimes looking for progress cannot be measured by the hours or days. Many tell me that the SSRI meds are slow acting and kick in slowly, etc, so that you kind of have to evaluate the affects over several days at a time. With the 40mg, it could be incremental over some time so that by then at the end of the increments, you can really see and feel the progress. Yes, fight Dep is pro active to do things you enjoy---go someplace, see a good movie, dress up, go listen to music somewhere, take a day trip in the car to a park or other location of beauty. We got to live a life and not have a life live us. Best.
Joe - Started my 40's yesterday. I won't say I'm better, but since my problem is mostly chemical, I can feel my tide turning. Now I need to learn how NOT to be depressed. For 6 months Cymbalta did nothing, and my prior meds were no good, so I have a lot of work to do if this works for me. I'm feeling positive ;-)
Problem is, you DO need a doctor to tell you to cut a pill in half. Many meds a coated so that they are time-released and are meant only to be taken whole.
Hang in there sounds cliche, But things will get better. Free secure higher power. My higher power is Jesus.
I wish doctors told new takers of Vii to take on the starter pack witih cutting the 10 mg into a 5 mg. Then take that for 4-5 days, and then go to the 10 mg and then 20 mg in the starter pack. That would help to stop any initial indigestion or cramps, etc. But it is nice to know you are feeling better to some degree. The real major good effects kick in 2-3-4 weeks and it gets better after that even. Good luck and keep us posted here on how it goes and works for you.
GOD BESS YOU. Hold on, life gets better.
im on day 4 of viibryd and i think it may be working but im just not sure. i have really strange stomach pangs and nausea. im not sure if its the meds or a stomach virus???? anyone else experiencing this
Read up on a high serotonin diet that helps to create more serontonin which is believed to be a reliever of Maj. Dep.
Endorphins are the ones you want to nurture. Read up on how to create the most endorphins. You can win this battle as something will work.
Your exactly right joe, I went to my GP today he upped my dosage from 20mg to 40 mg, I hope this works, the side effects like nausea and weird dreams I can deal with but the uncontrollable crying , and tiredness and mood swings have got to go! I feel so desperate for a fix, makes me wonder if this is what drug addicts feel like when they need a fix.....I'm feeling better tonight with hope from my GP that a higher dosasage and change in time may work , I hope it does I don't wan to live my life switching from meds to meds hoping to find the right one .... Thank you joe for your insight I hope this crying will stop and that maybe it's just the last of the side effects .... We will see what happens!
Thanks Joe.
Of all the people here, I would love to hear someday you got better. I really like that idea of a specialist. I thought you were already with one. In case you did not know, there is a non-invasive procedure to do a treatment to affect brain waves and upset the loop of negatives and depression. The brain has loops where the depressive impulses circulate. This procedure is thought to interfere and break the loops and cycles. People feel better. Investigate it and check it out. You should never ever give up. Just like a solder in Afghanistan or Iraq, the brave with courage to stand up and fight for America. So, you fight for yourself too. That is great therapy, fight for your rights and life that was given to you to enjoy, it is there only to be discovered and opened up to you. Best regards!
Surprising it failed and aggravated in the way you state. What dosage did you reach before weaning? Curious? You know, one way some doctors go with Vii is to up the dosage to a higher level to make it work, even if the patient has side effects, because, sometimes there is good relief and the side effects wear off. Some GP doctors are liable to do that, allow for an early quit. Some great shrinks will urge the patient to fight through the side effects and even convince to up the dosage and see if that works. It is a question of the skill and expertise of the shrink and how much they like Vii. Sometimes Vii is taken with another supportive drug too. Again, could be true this was the right choice, but on the other hand, you might have missed a chance for it to work as it was designed to do so. Always a tough decision and people with depressions are stressed to make decisions and can easily bail out out or nerves. Keep the faith and see if you might benefit from another adjunct pill to supplement the main pill. Sometimes people need a two pill jolt to get the job done. Good luck
The general rule is no extensive drinking with SSRI's as it blocks the SSRI chemical reaction so that the pill is neutralized. I have taken one beer or wine at times, and that is it, out of concern I am just wasting the expensive Vii pill. 10 mg is for starters to adjust but min dose is 20, that can work for some. I am on 30 mg and doing very well. Maybe I can go to 40 too if necessary, but not now. I understand the 3-4 weeks to have real improvements and more in few months. Eventually, after many months, or a year, many people literally forget what were the stressors that created the depression in the first place. I hardly think about the stressors that bothered me. That is one function of the pills. Good luck.
