Is this immediate release or extended / sustained release? I have migraines and this was prescribed as "3 tablets by mouth at bedtime." But if it is immediate release do I really want to be taking all 360 mg at once? Shouldn't I take 1 pill 3 x per day instead? ## Have you asked your doctor, or pharmacist about this? The tablet you asked about is 120mg regular release tablet, which means it takes about 15 to 20 minutes to start working. That is a little higher than the normal preventative migraine dose, which is usually 240mgs at bedtime. ## I too had migraines. I started on Calan SR 120mg (there were no generics ) about 16 years ago. After a year the migraines came back so my doctor increased the dosage to 240 mg. After three years, my insurance company decided that they wo...

My mail order pharmacy has said Ivan no longer makes verapamil sr. How can I get the 240 tablets in a brand name? ## Hello, BK! How are you? To get the brand name, you need your doctor to write the prescription as 'brand medically necessary' or whatever the equivalent is in your state, sometimes the phrasing varies, but your doctor will know what you're talking about. There are other generics available, though. There is one manufactured by Mylan Pharmaceuticals, one from Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals, one from Glenmark, one from Apotex and several others. Verapamil is a calcium channel blocker that's most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache and increased urination. Is there anything els...

No, they are not interchangeable. Have you contacted your doctor? There shouldn't be a problem with them calling in a refill for you, or your picking one up now, if you need it. I have been informed by my pharmacy that their manufacturer has discontinued the white pill and have gone solely with the blue pill. (Teva Mfg. I believe). I have an allergy to dyes in pills and can only take white. Walgreens (my pharmacy) directed me to try CVS or Walmart, but neither one has white. I like verapamil tablets and would prefer not to change. Any ideas? ## Hello, Jan! How are you? Unfortunately, I'm not finding any others in that dosage of the ER that are white. Do you have any large hospitals or a compounding pharmacy near you? They may be able to create it for you in clear capsules, to avoid the dye problem. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Do you still make verapamil 240mg 12 hour? I have been taking this dosage for years. What would I expect if I start taking the 24 hour tablet? Called 2 pharmacies and they do not carry the 12 hour dose. ## Hello, Mary! How are you? I'm sorry, but this website does not manufacture any medications, it is an information only resource. There really shouldn't be a lot of changes switching from one to the other, except for only taking one pill daily, rather than two. Has your doctor okayed the switch? Side effects to this medication may include nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, cough and hypotension.

I take Verapamil once a day 240 mg. Today I think I accidently took two around lunch time because I was very busy. What should I do now? ## Hello, Charlotte! How are you? Did you suffer any adverse effects? Doubling up could result in much lower blood pressure and heart rate than normal, which could put you in danger. Signs to watch for in the future include severe dizziness, drowsiness, sedation, somnolence and shallow breathing.

Yes, it is the same medication, just made by a different manufacturer. It's very common for a pharmacy to do this. They often switch depending on which company was offering the lowest price, when they needed to restock their supply. Side effects to this medication may include nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

What does this pill looks like? ## Hello, Myme! How are you? This is actually a generic medication, so it is manufactured by several different companies and there are far too many for me to be able to list the markings and descriptions of all them for you. What are the markings on the pill you're questioning? That would make it much easier for me to check for you.

I take verapamil 120mg er and refilled the medication. The refill came through as verapamil 120mg her. Is this the same medication? ## Hi Michael, ER stands for extended release. Extended release basically means that the drug dissolves over time in order to be released into the bloodstream at a slower and steadier rate. This allows the medication to be taken less frequently than an immediate release medication (IR). I'm not sure about the abbreviation HER, maybe you can check with you pharmacy regarding that? You can learn more about this drug on the page for Verapamil Details I hope this helps!

What is the difference between Verapamil Er 240 MG & Verapamil HCL ER Tab. ## Hi Gloria, From what I could gather, "HCL" is the chemically abbreviated form of Hydrochloride. It is basically the way that the medications are put into solid form. Many liquid or oral suspension formulas contain HBr, hydrobromide. Some medications also contain Fumarate or Maleate, all of which are mediums to put the substances into or dilute them. Since HCL is water soluble, the Verapamil that does contain HCL may be more easily absorbed into your system than the one that does not contain any HCL. This is just my theory as I haven't done a lot of research on the topic, but the bit of info I did find suggests it to be so. I hope this helps!

is a good pill for high blood pressure an is it easy on the stomach ## To my understanding, there is really no way a doctor or anyone else for that matter can know ahead of time how any medication can affect anyone. They can only assume that it will be effective based on medical records, current health, age, what the condition is, whether or not any other medications are being taken at the same time, etc. Any of these factors as well as others can affect how you end up responding to this drug.
