My friend is taking verapamil hcl er 120 mg and simvastatin for cholestrol. He has been taking the 2 for five years now. He now lives in NC and the Dr here said they inter act so he is changeing the cholestrol med. Does any one know if this is true? I don't see why the other Dr he went to for years would not know that. Thank you

Using these 2 medications together can cause increased levels of the Simvastatin in the body, by inhibiting its metabolism through the liver. This does create some risks, however, in some cases a doctor may choose to just make sure they are carefully monitoring the patient and prescribe a lower dosage of the Statin medication.

So, it isn't that they can't be used together, it's just that a doctor does have to carefully weight the potential risks and make sure that the dosage is taken under careful consideration.
