UpdatedDr. prescibed me this tablet for controlling Cholestrol. Is it a life long drug?

i am using zivasta 10 tablets from last 3 mont i want to know there are any side effect to taking this dr told me to take this madition for 6 month olease advise me what to do,

I only want to know is whether I can discontinue the medicine which is prescribed to me for maintenance of Cholesterol level as normal if I find that I have normal level of bad cholesterol.
Rasiklal, it depends. Zivast is reported to contain the active ingredient Atorvastatin (the US brand equivalent is Lipitor). For many, stopping the drug won't be a problem, but should be done with the guidance of their physician. However, a 2005 study by the American Heart Association documented a rebound effect in certain patients who had an ischemic stroke. With that said, it is recommended that you work with your doctor on reducing the dosage or discontinuing the medication since they are most familiar with your full medical history (and any other health conditions which you may experience).
