Hello, I've been taking the ortho pill for a good 6 months and I've recently been switched to the sprintec pill. I had my period on the 8th of June. It is now the 23rd. I started taking sprintec last sunday. It was fine the first week of the white pills but I missed two yesterday and the day before because of work... and today I was intimate with my boyfriend but he didn't climax inside of me... We took an hour nap and when I woke up I was bleeding. Is this a period, my body adjusting, or do u think something was hit wrong? I have no symptoms of sickness whatsoever and nothing hurts. Please help!?

When you experience a period, while taking oral contraceptives, it is actually called a withdrawal bleed, it is due to not taking in any hormones that week, those pills for your period week are actually placebo pills that are there to help keep women in the habit of taking them, so they don't forget, when it's time to take the active tablets, again.

Thus, if you miss taking a couple of tablets, it basically creates the same scenario and you can experience a period. It may take couple of weeks for things to settle down and return to normal.

The FDA lists other possible side effects as including nausea, dizziness, headache and weight changes.

Is there anything else I can help with?
