Underactive Thyroid And Dry Eyes

Hi all this is my first post, I am so glad I came upon this forum, I am 56 have been on levothyroxine for 3 years, I am taking 150micrograms a day. For the past 10 week I have had what I can only discribe as dry eyes (after doing hours of reserch on the net) the last month my eyes have got much worse, they water continusly they are very blood shot they are stuck together in the morning, swollen lids and under eye. I had a blood test last week and was told to reduce my levo by 25mg, but my eyes seemed to get worse. I have decided to come of my meds all together and see if that helps this will be my thrid day without the meds please keep fingers crossed that this will help my eyes as I am so depressed with them that I won't even go out. I do not recommend that anyone come of their meds, as soon as I start to see a difference I will start to interduce the meds back. I do not have conjuntivitis, or an allergy by the way, as I was treated for those in January and nothing worked. Thank you.

I did some researching, as well and while this isn't listed as a normal, expected side effect, there are many reports from people that have experienced it, usually when they were on too high of a dosage. Apparently, that is what your tests showed, which is why your doctor wanted you to lower yours.

As to the lower dosage, how long did you try it, before you stopped taking it?

Once you've been on a medication for such a long period of time, you do have to allow several weeks for it to process out of your body.
