My period started on September 27th, 2014. I took the tri-previfem pill today Monday,October 6th, 2014 and accidently skipped yesterday Sunday Oct. 5th. I started taking the first Monday pill today since I missed yesterday, which was Sunday. How should I take the pills now? Should I just take the remaining 1st weeks pills skipping yesterday's pill, which I have not taken and start on the 2nd week's pill starting this Sunday? Will it affect my period and will it still prevent me from getting pregnant?

Hello, Vicky! How are you?

You actually should have started taking them the first day of your period to be immediately protected from pregnancy.

Since you started later in your cycle and missed a tablet, you'll need to take the active tablets for a full 7 days, before you will be protected against pregnancy. That means no unprotected intercourse, until the 8th day of taking the active tablets, without missing any.

Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, acne, bloating and pms.

And yes, it may throw your period off, so you may not get it the week you usually do, you may also experience breakthrough bleeding.

Is there anything else I can help with?
