Trapezius Muscle Tension Headache Migraine
UpdatedDoes anyone know of an effective pain killer for Trapezius Muscle Tension Migraine Headache? I used Fiorinal with Codeine by Watson, Brand Name Only, since 1998. But something is not the same about that drug anymore. It simply does not knock out the pain. I am not addicted to it. I am able to go days without it, when there is no pain and I can function. It's too bad that the drug has been changed in some way, because my life is now spent on the couch most days of the month because of the unrelenting excruciating musculoskeletal migraines. I am trying to find another pain killer, since Fiorinal with Codeine has been changed and no longer works. I wish the manufacturer(s) would listen to us who use their product and believe us when we tell them the change they've made in the drug has made it ineffective. I wish they would return to making it the old effective way. What a waste the revised drug has been. My body knows the difference. Years ago, my insurance company switched the brand name to generic without telling me. I had no idea I was being given the generic form, until AFTER I had been taking the generic pills and did not get any relief. I had a few bottles of the pills I would keep in different places. Some were brand name and some, unbeknownst to me, were generic. I was perplexed why the pills were not working sometimes. I examined the bottles only to discover that pills that were not working were generic! I hung onto the generic and at times unknowingly grabbed a pill from the generic bottle. I would not get relief after taking the pill. I would go back and examine the bottle to discover that I had taken a generic by mistake. Plain and simple the generic did not work! I have gone round and round over the years making sure prescriptions are written clearly so pharmacies will give me brand name only. It was essential that I got the brand name only. Now.... Something has changed. Someone else is handling the brand name drug and they have changed it. My body knows. So... Any other pain killers to suggest that actually work and give us some sort of life back?

Hello, Kathy! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem you're having.
However, it's actually more likely that after being on it for so long, your body has just slowly become tolerant to the medication. It is normal for this to happen, after taking something for a long-period of time and it stops working as well for you.
Have you consulted your doctor? You may need to try a different medication, but it's hard for me to make suggestions, without knowing what others you tried in the past.
The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
If the Codeine works, though, your doctor could even prescribe a higher dose of it.
