Transdermal Patch How To
UpdatedAny and all input is welcomed, regardless of medication being delivered.
So about 4 years ago my pain doctor tried to put me on a fentanyl patch and unfortunately I couldn't get the patch to stick longer than 20 minutes. It never worked out. Now, I am in Colorado which is drier than the Gobi, and I don't tend to use a lot of lotion yet I cannot get patches to stick to me. Apparently I'm oily or just so slick nothing sticks? ha
Anyway, I'm looking for thoughts and info on how to make a patch stick. I'm also wondering how to get adhesive and any product used to make the patch stick residue off my skin. I will be going on butran patches tomorrow and naturally I can't just slap some duct tape over it AND it's a 7 day patch. If a 2 day one didn't keep...7 days...HA! I really need this to work for my rheumatoid arthritis which is not only incurable, but so far, untreatable for me. I'm hoping this will help me with pain until we find relief for my underlying condition. Thanks!

I have a similar problem, some people just have a body chemistry that doesn't like glues. However, there are some tape covers that are inexpensive and are made just for use with these types of patches, your pharmacist should be able to help you find them.
This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
Is there anything else I can help with?
yes use a overlying plastic type patch it is see through and has adhesive all the way around it the pain patch will be inside of this covering It worked for me for 3 years and I had the same problem I dont remember the name but the hospital of dr office should know . it was big so it held patch down inside w/smallband of adhesive all the way around
Thanks you two for info. I found the tegrederm and got a drysol script. Those should take care of it.
Hello, Can anyone tell me how long it takes for Percocet 10/325 to withdraw from your body, while you're on Fentanyl 50mg ? I've haven't taken the medication since May 6th. but I still feel the withdrawal symptoms. Thank You !!!
Be careful changing brands - it does make a difference in terms of withdrawal.
The brand Mylan patches are smaller and stay on well. They sell a plastic tape that's ribbed at local drug store, I've had to take this s*** for 7yrs. now. Works great for pain causes terrible nausea and sweats. Best wishes
If your still on the patch you should not be having withdrawal symtoms for very long maybe a 1-2day's
Normally, from what my doctor told me , replacing one narcotic with another one you shouldn't experience withdrawls like that. I was on Percocet 10/325 for ten years before moving up to a different higher med and i didn't experience and withdrawls. But everyone is different. If you believe you are having a chemical withdrawal and it is dibiltating you life, contact your prescribing doctor. Many times, not always its a mental, mindset. Not saying this is your case. All meds come with side effects. Be sure to discuss all questions before changing or starting or stopping any medications with you doctor.
I have always had difficulty getting patches to stick. Even nicotine patches. I have to use thick numerous strips of medical tape around and across the center of the patch criss cross. Duragesic patches only stay on 36-48 hrs so I haven't used them for years. You can give the tape trick a try. Good luck!
