Tramadol Withdrawal Terrible Stomach Pain

Hello. I have searched the web and can't seem to find a problem like mine while coming off tramadol. I have horrible stomach burning and pain that extends down both sides of my rib cage. It happened once before when I was coming off tramadol and you think I would have learned to stay away from this poison. Has anyone else had pain and terrible burning down both sides of their rib cage when coming off tramadol? This is day 2 for me. I am hoping it goes away soon
Terrible pain and burning throughout entire torso, stabbing pains in the back which once time felt like I was shot in the heart through the back. Yesterday, the 5th day of withdrawal, the burning felt like my back was being stung by ants. This is only the beginning of the long list of terrible pains I have had during this detox, all different types of pain in different areas of my torso.
Re: David Raiders (# 34)
Tapering helps. I am cutting my 50mg tabs into 25mg, but doctors are doing a weaning where they drop by 10mg at a time, so I would have to pay for these and they're more expensive and insurance companies usually won't foot the bill for this tapering which is total BS. I am taking a 25mg benadryl, 12.5mg would probably work, to decrease nausea and stomach burning - it's an antihistamine so helps decrease stomach acid and that damn burning that is so awful! There must be something in Tramadol that inhibits secretion of either stomach acid or enhances or detracts from mucus cells production of the substance that gives our stomachs a protective layer? Becasue...this is painful! The nature store, get Desert Valley (I think is the name) Aloe drink for stomach. Its usually a pink and white bottle, good size, like $18 and well worth it's weight in gold. It has slippery elm, peppermint, etc and heals that stomach. The rib pain people are getting is probably referred pain from the stomach. Also, foodwise, potatoes create an alkaline ash in the body and will help it heal much faster. Saute some onions in a little butter, add a bunch of sliced potatoes (if red can leave skins on), and add water to boil til tender, add salt and pepper, garlic, etc to taste. It should help and I should take my own advice lol. Oh, ice pack to my stomach helps too.

Keep at it, I was on it for a few years 400 mg a day. The first couple of weeks are the hardest and then it slowly eased. Do expect some very bad stomach cramps and sweating at night and then your taste buds started to play little trick. I went cold turkey in December and a lot better now. Meditation does wonders and also family and friends. All the best, Don't give up it is an evil medication.
Hi all,
It's my 4th week of being on 400mg a day (after a year) to 150mg a day and the withdrawals are still unbearable. I want to come off this conpletely but don't know how I'm going to take any less than I already am. I cant sleep or concentrate at work. Any advice?
Re: David Raiders (# 34)
I meant to say that I took 120 in under a week, not a month. Just clarifying the error.
Re: Female 37 (# 33)
I took Tramadol for over ten years. Not a single day did I not take this pain relieving but horribly addictive drug. Like most, started taking as prescribed. In September 2017, when I realized I went thru a brand new 120 qty. prescription in under a month, I knew it was time to do something about the addiction before it did something to me. On September 29th, I took my last pill. The hell that ensued for the next 4 weeks is simply amazing. Restless legs at night was a major hurdle, I finally got past that. I thought I was in the clear, and then it started. Abdomen pain, right under my sternum. Radiating up under my rib cage, around to my upper and lower back. Bloated like I just ate everything on a McDonalds menu in one sitting. Not sure if it was withdrawal complications, I went in to see my internist. Within 3 days I had a colonoscopy, endoscopy, ultrasound, hidascan (nuclear medicine) and many lab visits for blood draws. Everything coming back negative, nothing to be found wrong with me. The pain was/is unbearable. I couldn’t take it any longer, I took 2 Tramadols two days ago, and the pain went away (of course it did)... yesterday I took 4, and today I took 3. I feel normal while on this devil made pill. No pain. I have energy. But it’s wrong. I worked so hard to get where I was three days ago. I am upset with myself for giving in, but the abdomen pain is so unbearable. So, suggestions? Words of encouragement? Questions? Degrading remarks? I welcome them all. How am I going to beat this drug with my guts hurting as bad as they do when I have no Tramadol coursing thru my veins?
Hi Denise,
Yes. I have the same problem when stopping Tramadol. For me it usually lasts 2-3 days. Unfortunate that such an effective pain medication causes pain when taken off. It's happened to me two or three times when I go off it, never fails!
I'm currently on my first day trying to overcome a Tramadol addiction. The last time I took some was yesterday and I have had none today. This is the second time I have tried to come off Tramadol but the first time I have experienced these symptoms, so I Googled it and found this forum. I have had the usual withdrawal migraines today, but I am now experiencing severe stomach cramping which is nearly unbearable. I'm glad to see that there is actually a reason for it and I'm not the only one.
I am going thru same exact things everyone of them! I know this post is old but if you ever got thru it w high I'm sure you did. Would love to hear from you. I have been using kratom and it does help a lot.
I am on my 11th day of going cold turkey off Tramadole. The stomach pain are very mild, But now with a very bad Hay fever for four days now, Tired all the time, Hungry and pain down both sides of my rib cage. What helps me is Guided Meditation.
Hello everyone,
I'm from the Netherlands. I write this because I don't know if the brands of Tramadol are different in every country. I've been using Tramadol HCL-PCH from Pharmachemie for about 15 yrs. approx 8 of 50 mg. per day.
I now use a different brand because Í have to pay for the first brand. And this brand works less with more side effects symptoms than the first; Tramadol PCH Auro Actavis with the same dosage and also have the same pains in my stomach.
Have had severe withdrawal symptoms with the first brand Tramadol PCH HCI when I stopped coldturkey and ended up in the hospital; couldn't walk upright from the stomach pain, severe restless in my body so I didn't sleep for over 5 days just kept turning from 1 side to the other.
So YES; (severe) pain in your abdomen is normal. It should get better after 3-4 weeks but it'll take 3 months before you have no withdrawal symptoms. You also may feel very tired up until 6 months or even longer after that depending on how much and how long you have used it. That's why, in combination with hernia's and M.S. I started again. Wish I'd never done this. I now try to stop slowly; 1 tablet per 3 weeks.
P.S What irritates me is that the manual with Tramadol and several Healthcare takers including doctors either deny severe withdrawal syptoms or say it's not so bad. Believe me; it's very bad.
I've noticed that for me personally a microdose of psylocybine helps to relieve withdrawal syptoms. Instead of the usual 10-15 gr. take only 1 gram to start. There were no effects (tripping, hallucinations) from the mushrooms though, if one would know the effect of them, one could clearly see the difference in my pupils.
I am into my day 8 since gone cold turkey after four years on that horrible drug.
Was taking 100ml twice a day
My stomach cramp is so bad, Now hay fever and flu like symptoms, And very drowsy.
I took tramadol off and on (mostly on) for around 15 years. When I decided to go cold turkey off of it I was taking 600mg a day, at one point I was at 800mg a day. I can say two things, first it can be done(getting off of it) but it is hell my stomch was a wreck for weeks.
Your not suppose to take suboxone if you still have methadone in your system..it has naloxone in it which will send your body into severe withdrawals from the methadone.
Just a year ago i took 40 tramadol at once and was hospitalized they didnt pump my stomach however i did thow up the poison and then i passed out and woke up in icu so i was just wondering why ive been experiencing pains in my abdomen like that of an ulcer also i can guess i messed up the lining in my stomach
I had been taking tramadol for 9 months 6 weeks ago I had a operation for a slipped disc when I left the hospital I was told I didn't need to take the tramadol any more nobody warned me of the side effects if just stopping them I feel down and anxious all the time but its the bad stomach ache which is the worse every day I'm currently on co codamal for the pain and got to have a scan on my belly does any one no how long the stomach pain lasts for
Hi. Ive been taking tramadol for about almost a month. I was taking once a day. I just stopped taking it 2 days ago due to severe symptoms. Now i have abdominal pain and bloating. I didn't know why. Know by reading these posts I see why. You said you fought tramadom and won. Please tell me how?
Me too, had full lab tests and ultrasound and all good, but horrible pain especially under ribs as I am trying to get off these. Now doc said colitis possibly, need to do ct scan and stool tests and I am thinking maybe it is the tramadol withdrawal after reading this.
I am experiencing terrible abdominal pain and cramps after taking tramadol. Its weird its like nothing ive experienced before. I can relate to the burning or numbing sensation down one side of my rib cage. I will never take tramadol again.
Just an update. My wife who passed away, we just had "some" information from the coroner, but it's still on going.
Cause of death a combination of methadone and tramadol.
NOT an overdose, but the combination.
They were prescribed by doc and she wasn't taking anything more.
Christ, the worst drugs of all and both together.
I TOLD them it was wrong, I TOLD them she was getting worse everyday, but they just fobbed me off (but that's another rant).
Am in the process of screwing the so called drug and alcohol team for not listening.
Tramadol wd may make you feel like crap but sorry, you got a choice.
Stop it and feel like crap for a long time, or carry on and feel nothing forever.
I'm sorry my view is twisted but my young wife is dead and tramadol IS a major reason.
I found a strip of tram yesterday while packing to move and I've torn the ligaments in my foot and for a second I went to take one, just to help the pain.
Even with my knowledge, I nearly just did it.
It IS hard to get off but just try..
