I just moved to San Miguel de Allende Gto Mexico... Will I still need to have a doctor prescribe Tramadol or does it not require a prescription in this Country? I had 11 knee surgeries in the last 3 years. Good news, I'm not in a wheelchair anymore!! Thanks so much.

You don’t need a prescription for Tramadol in Mexico, but, you still have to be cautious about it. Don’t get them from any of those generic pharmacies..get it from the well known..like Guadalajara, isseg and such. You can get boxes of 10 mg with 10 pills. Or they have 50 mg with 10. They have them in many forms and combinations with other meds. But for sure you can not get more than 10 mg pills. Try not to get more than 2 boxes of wherever dosage you get in at the time because it does alert the counter workers and while still legal they can start getting funny about it...trust me..be cautious. While still totally legal they know what’s up...If it comes to that then don’t buy from the same pharmacy always as they don’t track it. I've been living here for over 2 years and getting them weekly.
@Pattykakes,
As far as I know from reading other's reviews, Tramadol allegedly does not require a prescription in the event that you obtain it directly in Mexico "in-person". I think the only problem lies with those who try to go on the internet and search for it that way - since they are still in the US and therefore have to abide by US laws and regulations.
However, I speculate that even if it does require a prescription in Mexico, there's widespread rumor that their doctors tend to be more lenient when it comes to prescribing certain substances than they are here in the States. Still, the only way to know for sure what current conditions are like would be to go to a local pharmacy in person, as laws do change periodically; but I hope this insight helps!
Has anyone here been to Mexico lately who can attest to these claims?
