Tramadol And Hives Side Effects

I've been taking Tramadol (Ultram) for 4 months for an ankle injury. I only take it as needed, which is no more than 2x's a day. 3 weeks ago I started developing hives that would come and go. My skin would itch, increasing in severity at night. I couldn't stand it so I went to the minor care office (5 x's ! ) I was put on 3 rounds of Prednisone and the hives disappeared each time only to reappear when the Prednisone ended. The doctor did blood work and did a biopsy. The blood work came back fine, showing I had a drug allergy. After stopping all my meds and reintroducing them (one at a time) it became very clear it was the Tramadol! The rash is better since stopping the Tramado, but my question is (Finally), how long can I expect it to take for this drug to clear my system? Like I mentioned the rash is decreased, but still there. Should I worry?

Hello, Rescued! How are you doing? I am very sorry about the problem you had.

How long have you been off of it? It can take a few weeks for things to settle back down and for the reaction to stop. When I had an allergy to a medication like that, the hives and rash lasted for 2 weeks, after I stopped it, but it can vary sightly from person to person.

Thank you! It's been about 3 1/2 weeks. The rash has definitely subsided and is not as uncomfortable , Although it all but disappears when I take prednisone only to return once finished...Again not as bad as before !!
I think it's healing though and I've had no new hive sightings !! It was pretty intense, But I wanted some feedback because I didn't want to keep taking steroids . I'm just going to wait this out!
