Tramadol, Tylenol 3 And Vicodin
UpdatedI am currently on what my doctor calls a "pain management" plan since nothing else has worked. I take Vicodin 7.5/325 which right now is to be my at-home-pain-reliever. I was prescribed tramadol 50mg previously to take during the day and it was awesome! No pain, alert and able to work. But good feelings faded and became nothing. Now my doc had me on the same Vicodin. And I take Tramadol 50mg. (1-2 every six hours as needed, max 6 per day - Same as Vicodin) and Tylenol 3 (300/30mg) 1-2 twice daily. I already don't feel anything with this tramadol t3 combo. What is a good substitute I can take during the day? Maybe not even take before driving (1.5 hour commute - part of the issue lol) but maybe take eight after my commute is done and my shift is about to start. Don't wanna sound like a clucky junky either lol.

There is no way to recommend what might be a good medication to help you, since we are all different and what works for one person may not work for you. However, if a different combination worked for you in the past, you may want to ask them about switching back to it.
The FDA warns that these medications carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.
How are you doing, now? Has there been any change?
The medicines you have named are all short acting opiates. Maybe your doctor can write you a prescription for a long acting opiate such as MS Contin or OxyContin. These are both taken every 12 hours and then you could take a break through medicine every 6 hours. Most of the time they do help most patients. With out knowing your history and medical condition I can only give you that information.
Maybe try going to the brand name of tramadol, Ultram. I currently take generic tramadol, naprosyn, and lyrica, for severe spinal stenosis, osteo arth., and various other pains that are work related. Before 2013, tramadol was very efficent in relieving pain, but it changed when it's category was changed by the FDA to a high level narcotic. The problem is, when they changed it, the level of the actual pain relieving component, and the quality of filler ingredients in it changed to a substandard quality, so it is less effective. I recently tried filling a prescription for Ultram, which is much more expensive than the generic tramadol, and it was a day and night difference in effectiveness. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to buy it every month so I am stuck with the substandard generic. But if you can afford it, stay with all of your current doses, only try a month with the brand name (Ultram), instead of generic tramadol and see if it helps with the pain. You are right about tramadol though. Before it changed, I could take it, and it removed the pain without affecting my ability to function. It did not cause a euphoric/loopiness or drowsiness and I did not need to take as much. Hope that trying the name brand helps you.
