Torbutrol Availability
UpdatedMy vet can't get Torbutrol anymore. Are there any pharmacies that still carry it? I have looked everywhere and can't find it.

Torbutrol is a brand name for Butorphanol tartrate; however it very likely may have been discontinued, just as the other brand of this drug has:
Butorphanol (Stadol) is a morphinan-type synthetic opioid analgesic developed by Bristol-Myers. The brand name Stadol was recently discontinued by the manufacturer.
IT IS NOW ONLY AVAILABLE IN ITS GENERIC FORMULATIONS, manufactured by Novex, Mylan, Apotex and Ben Venue Laboratories and is available only as Butorphanol tartrate in IV, tablet, and intranasal spray formulations.
SIDE NOTE: Butorphanol is most closely structurally related to Levorphanol - just to suggest another alternative.
Based on this information, it seems you can only get the generic Butorphanol or go for the alternative medication. I would ask your vet about obtaining the generic version first and foremost, if you haven't already.
I hope this helps!
Thank you for this information. I let my vet know this and see if they can order anything similar for my pet. If you hear of anything else also, please let me know.
My dog takes torbutrol 5mg tabs, my Vet can't get it anymore. However I found a specialty compounding pharmacy that makes it and ships via mail order. You will need your vet to send them a rx for the med first. The cost is slightly less than the vet charged, $130 for 60 tabs approximately. The pharmacy is Diamondback Drugs in Scottsdale AZ. Check there website for more info.
Re: David (# 1)
Try Diamondback Drugs. I think it’s in California. Torbutrol generic compound at 5mg goes for about $2.30 a tablet.
