Topiramate / Topamax Issues When Drinking Alcohol

I have observed several side effects while taking Topiramate as prescribed by my doctor. I know I need to be careful when consuming alcohol and taking this medication. With that being said, I am an adult and fully aware of my actions, and although I am not increasing my consumption, but furthermore more mindful and drinking what I would consider less. I am noticing nights where I am forgetting a lot the next day or black outs... has anyone else had this occur as well while taking this mediation? I am only on 50mg.

There are warnings stating that you should not mix alcohol with Topirimate, due to the side effects that it may cause, which could include psychological issues, severe dizziness, drowsiness, and memory issues.

REF: Topamax This PDF lists some details provided by the FDA.

Alcohol typically reacts in two ways with prescription medications, it can cause new side effects that you wouldn't normally experience, and it can cause worsening of the typical side effects.

If you are having black outs, and memory issues, it would likely be best if you didn't imbibe, but you should consult your doctor to be sure that these issues are solely due to the medication, and alcohol.

Are you on any other medications?
