Tooth Abscess, Dentist Prescribed 100mg Doxy.

I went yesterday and the dentist determined an abscess and needing a root canal. The pain is unbearable. I am taking the 100mg of doxy but curious if I could take more to help kill the infection sooner? So far I am only 2 doses in but am prescribed to take 1 a day... I'm thinking I have a few more days of pain left before the doxy really kicks in.... The pain is literally putting me in tears and I have 3 small children to be caring for.... Don't have time for the pain!

Hello, Ali! How are you doing? Has there been any change?

The general rule for antibiotics is that, if they are working, you shouldn't see any worsening after the first 24 hours of dosing and you should start to see improvement after a full 3 days. If nothing has improved, then you may need to return to your dentist for a different antibiotic, rather than raising your dose of this one.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
