Tolerence Fentanyl Transdermal Patch (Top voted first)
UpdatedI've been using the the 25mcg patch for chronic pain for 3mos. and feel it is not working as well as it did in the beginning. Could I be building a tolerence this soon? Should I ask my neurologist to increase the dosage? or should I ask for other pain med to use with the patch?

You have definitely built up a tolerance. Also, the problem with extremely strong narcotics like fentanyl is when you become dependent (NOT addicted, big difference), your brain starts to send out a false sense of pain that is telling you that you need more and more. It is all up to you and your doc. The more and the longer you stay on it the worse it will be to get off of it (withdrawals). Also they could could give you something else on top of the fent for breakthrough pain, but it will just probably be another opiate like vicoden or norco. The problem with docs is that they don't tell you this stuff until it is to late. A lot of people now a days, just walk into the doc with a stubbed toe and walk out with a very dangerous narcotic. I'm not saying this is your case, but these drugs are very dangerous!!!!
The time it takes for someone's tolerance to build up is going to vary from person to person. What may work for someone else for years, might only work for you for a very short time.
Yes, you should discuss it with your doctor. There is a higher dose of the Fentanyl patches that can be prescribed, or as was already stated, another medication can be added.

Go to 50mcg dont worry use them like you should..you'll be fine.
They always start low, but most go to 50mg pretty fast. I was on 25mcg and have been on 50mcg and will be able to be on it for a good long while. I am free of my neck and spine pain. I can do more, but still have to take this slower and easy. Blessing just ask to go to 50mcg they expect that.
They are very aware if these 25 patches don't last very long so ask for 50's they work well you may need some breakthrough medication. Hope everything works out.
That is not my experience. I've been on it since approx 07. Last 6 wks I was in so much pain I thought: Something wrong wi the med? I built up a tolerance? or? Today my pain is down to 2 . Go figurel. I just hang in.I document looking for patterns, causes, effects, Everything from diet ,blood pressure, blood sugar, emotion, food & more. Documenting helped me get out of a wheelchair. I hate taking the time but I don't want to increase meds. I am looking for other options which others have talked about & sound good. I have more questions than answers.
