To Quit Lunesta Is Possible, Your Sleep Will Return! (written By Bad Insomniac)
UpdatedI am a 33 year old female that was suffering from a pretty bad insomnia for about year and half, taking Lunesta daily. First, it worked like a charm-for maybe 6 months, but then it slowly lost its effect and I struggled again. I took more Lunesta but not much change...I was desperate! I could not sleep with or without it, often running on 3-5 hour of crappy disturbed light sleep. When I got less then 2-3 hours, I had to call in sick to work and I was a living Zombie... Boy was I in hell! I tried it all, literally, googling every day to find a miracle cure. There is none and the more you read the more you feed your insomnia actually. I could have become an insomnia doctor, i knew so much. Well, my point is that I realized what's the point of taking drugs if they don't help anymore. So i tried to stop, it took several attempts, but i did stop-slowly. Here's how i did it: I lowered my dose by 25% every week. So if you take 2mg-it will take you almost 2 months to stop completely. It's ok if you relapse here and then, it took me several attempts! Yes you will be miserable and you may take some time off from work (i temporarily adjusted my work schedule from 8am to 9.30am), but your normal sleep pattern will eventually return to almost normal if not all the way normal! (about 80% for me). You have to let your body heal first and it will know what to do. I have been completely off of Lunesta for about 3 months and sleep about 6-7 hours a night, no problem to fall asleep, still waking up quite early, but most of the time I don't feel tired during the day. It's still work in progress, I still get a bad night here and then, but hey...what's one bad night when it used to be 7! GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!!!!!! ;-) I so understand what you're going thru...

Hello, Lucy! How are you doing? Thank you for the very useful post. I'm sure it will help many others. :-)
I also used to suffer from bad insomnia and took Ambien for awhile, however, while it did work for me, it started causing severe next day side effects, such as extreme dizziness to the point where I felt like I was going to pass out. It took awhile to realize what was causing it.

I got the biggest source of help by practicing proper sleep hygiene. My cardio ARNP mentioned it to me once, so I looked into it.

You can learn more about it at that link. Many people don't realize how important certain habits are for beating insomnia and getting a good night's rest.
Is there anything I can help with?
