Tired, Fatigued While On Eliquis
(Newest replies first)

About a month after taking Eliquis I started with being tired nearly all day. Just wanted to sit and close my eyes. I find myself leaning against walls, rubbing my face to remain alert and yawning a lot. I am also on a beta blocker but have reduced it with seemingly no improvement. MD isn't worried but it really is affecting my quality of life. MD ran a bunch of blood checks and all were normal. Right now not getting a lot of support from my doctors on this.

Hi Mark , same thing here. I just had knee replacement surgery and they found the a fib put me on meds and now I can’t Evan get to the dinning room table to eat , just so tired, it’s a fight just to get up to go to therapy, Dr not saying anything but this is crazy.
Hi Mark. Everything you say is exactly my experience too. It driving me nuts. {edited for privacy}
I am exactly the same on Eliquis since April and beta blockers. My life has totally changed from being an active man to a doddery olds hell of my former self. Insomnia, restless legs, tired but can't relax, its a nightmare.

For some time I’ve been on several drugs: Lisinopril for blood pressure; chemotherapy for my lymphoma, now changed to Ibrutinib taken orally; one of whose side-effects has been atrial fibrillation. I’ve recently been put on Digoxin for that.Several months ago I was prescribed Apixaban (morning and night)as a blood thinner against the risk of strokes.
I read the other day of men who ascribed their erectile dysfunction to Apixaban, so I wondered what would happen if I risked the stroke and gave Apixaban a rest. Within 24 hours my wife and I were able once more to resume normal relations. I’m 76, she 64, we’ve been used to 3 times a week.
At the same time I can report other improvements in health which have miraculously occurred. My extreme fatigue triggered easily by exertion, low mood, inability for sustained concentration, bleeding haemorrhoids—all these have lifted simultaneously.
Of course this won’t be a solution for everyone. I have yet to tell my haematologist next week. I expect him to talk about heightened risk and so on, but this is such a clear case I feel obliged to announce it to those who may be similarly affected.

Black stool could be a sign of internal bleeding in the stomach. You sg
Hould you tell your Dr.
I had a PE on 5/11/18 was put in the hospital for four days. Had to have a catheter put in my neck into my heart then into my lungs for 24 hours to bust up the clot to get pressure off of my heart. Was put on heparin drip until 5/14/18 that's when I was started on 10mg of Eliquis twice daily for seven days then 5mg twice daily there after. I am staying sleepy and if i let myself I'll sleep all day. But I've found that if I get up and move I don't sleep. If not getting another PE is what it takes then fine I can handle being sleepy because my life means more to me than not taking meds and getting another PE and possibly losing my life this time. Dr said i was very lucky to still be here that's how large my PE was.
I have been on Eliquis for a month. Make me sleepy during day time. And causing inomnia at night dose is only 2.5 twice a day
I am 5 4 an had knee surgery in December and was doing well in PT when the leg became swollen in late February and found I had DVT and 2 PEs. Started Eliquis 5 mg x 2 times a day. I have been very tired and after I get home from work I just want to sleep. However, it is now mid-June and my energy is coming back, I am back to working in the yard and even back to regular workouts. I am supposed to be on Eliquis until September and then monitored while I wean off of it. After reading everyone's messages I wanted to mention what I was told that if you are on a blood thinner, it is because of a severe insult to your body (surgery, DVT, PE) and this takes a toll on your body. It takes time to recover and you will have less energy and most like this will lead to some muscle loss or weight gain. While recovering I tried to eat healthy, get plenty of rest (some nights I went to bed at 8:00) and stay hydrated...drank green and black tea and many salads). It was VERY hard to make myself get motivated to move more and begin increasing physical activity. It took a full month of forcing myself before I actually started getting energy back.
Bottom line, everyone's chemistry and physiology is different but myself, and others, have found you can work through this...but it really sucks for several months. Be patient and I hope you all are able to get back to where you want to be!!
*Sorry it should say pollen. Autocorrect smh!
Another thing I am experiencing is being light headed all the time. Where I see stars sometimes. I drink lots of water though so maybe that is from me being severely anemic. I have to get iron infusions now also, with taking iron pills. To get my iron back to a healthy normal level. My Hematologist is more concerned about the fact my iron is so low than me having PE and taking blood thinners.
I just found out a week ago I have PE. 2 blood clots in my left lung. I too am taking Eliquis and every single time I take my dose I am exhausted within 20 mins and crash for hours. I just did it again. I fell asleep (deep sleep) for 5 hours!!! My mom took Eliquis too, and the same thing happened to her. Everyday at the same time she would be so tired, and sleep for a few hours. She said it lasted for a couple months then stopped. She then got a lot of energy. So hopefully that will be the case for me. My doctors brush it off too when I tell them. I also get severe headaches. They brush that off too. It could be allergies. The polls is horrible right now. They gave me Tylenol for the headaches.

I have been on Eliquis 2 times. Both times it made feel Horrible,Sever Fatigue.
I was on eliquis for 2 months prior to cryoablation, then 4.5 months after. It gave me insomnia and stage 1 kidney failure. Now I can come off of it and I feel this crushing exhaustion wrapping around me. I collapse on the couch and it feels like there's a ton of weight on my shoulders.
Hello, Mark! How are you?
The issue here is that people are experiencing this with the new medications in this class, but it's not something listed in the known side effects, which likely explains your doctor not worrying about it.
I think the best thing to do, at this point, is to see him again and make sure to emphasize how bad it is… and if he won't listen, then try seeing a different doctor.
Is there anything else I can help with?
