Thyronorm And Lifelong Treatment

My TSH was 5 and my doctor started me on Thyronorm 25mcg. It was later increased to 50mcg which I have been taking for almost 4 years. Is there any way to stop this medication or do I have to take it lifelong? And will the dose increase as the time passes? I am 26 years old and do regular exercise and try my best to eat healthy. Are there any side effects associated with the long term use of Thyronorm? I have started noticing weight gain.

Generally, if you have a thyroid disorder, you will have to take the medication for the rest of your life, but the dosage will depend on your TSH levels, so it may vary in the future.

The NIH lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, hair loss, mood swings, and weight changes.
