I am having trouble controlling my blood sugars since starting levothyroxine 150 mcg 2 weeks ago after having my thyroid removed, I am on diabetes medication and have been for years and it has been under control and now I am getting crazy highs and lows. Is anyone else having this problem? my Dr. tells me there is no interaction but when I looked it up online it said there was and by the way I am feeling I tend to believe what I read.. any information would be appreciated.. thanks! ## U also need T3 which is Cytomel (or the generic Liothyronine SOD); this is to counter balance the T4 Levothyroxin u've bn taking. The only med that has both is Armor thyroid natural glandular which is hard to come by. ## You may also ask for Synthroid instead of the generic version, Levothyroxine. I kn...

I've just been prescribed Levothyroxine 75mcg. I've been reading all the horrible reviews and am afraid to take it. I didn't have any symptoms of hypothyroidism except being overweight. I went to the dr for something totally different. I was overdue for routine blood work. Came back as this: TSH was 75.320, T4 free below normal 0.49, antibody 2250, T3 normal. I'm getting a biopsy on a nodule on Monday. Dr wants me to start on 75mcg Levothyroxine. I went the internet and have read horror stories. I don't have any symptoms of hashimotos thyroiditis (my diagnosis). In fact my symptoms mimic hyper insomnia, caffeine sensitive. I work 3rd shift. I've read the best time to take it is at night before bed. My pharmacist says in AM 30min before other meds. Neither of thes...

My TSH leavel is 135. Doctor have told me to take thyronorm 50. As per his directions I am taking every day morning before 7 ie. before taking food. My question is some tell because of this the immunity leaves will be low and prone to diseases. (2) They also tell the memory won't be good and most of the time keep forgetting this and will be bad in academics. If this is true what should I do and should I need to try homeopathic treatment.

I am a 36 yr old female. Diagnosed with hypothyroidism with very high antibody titre. Initially prescribed with levothyroxine 50mcg, weight gain of 6 lbs per year. Had to change endocrinologist, new prescription for thyronorm 75mcg. Current weight gain is 4 kgs per month, after taking thyronorm 75 for 30 days. Also, thyronorm intake resulted in joint pain, which was not experienced during levothyroxine intake. Should I revert back to levothyroxine 50 or continue thyronorm 75? ## They are both the same medication, Levothyroxine, the Thyronorm is just a brand name for it, so the only difference is in the dosage. You are taking a higher amount of it now, which could explain the joint pain side effect. Learn more Thyronorm details here. Have you talked to your new doctor about the joint pai...

I just received my labs, I'm 5'7" 150lbs, black male. My TSH 17.17 and my T4 1.08, I am currently on 100mcg, and my doctor increased me to 125mcg of levothyroxine. Does this seem normal, I was on 200mcg my entire high school and middle school life. Now I'm 23 and this new doctor doesn't seem to think I'll need that much, but I'm trying to join the navy and you can't unless your hypo and it's controlled on meds. ## Also, I've been hypo since I was 10yrs old. Got hashimotos and it did work on my thyroid, currently zero thyroid function and has been like this for over a decade now. ## Hello, Nappyclouds! How are you doing? If you really fear that this doctor may not be properly handling your condition, then the best thing to do would be to see a diff...

My menstrual cycle is 4 months delayed and when I had a medical checkup in the school, the nurse said that i had hyperthyroidism. Does hyperthyroidism affect my menstruation? I have been stressed out about this for the past few weeks. ## Yes, thyroid issues can cause problems with your menstrual cycle, as well as weight changes, mood swings and hair loss, according to the NIH. Are you on any medications? Do you have any other diagnosed medical conditions?

Today my doctor changed my Medication. The doctor informed me my level is still low even on 100mg, but too high on 125mg so he advised me to take 100mg one day and 125mg the next and continue like this for the next 3 months. Trying to fall pregnant but it's not happing due to this reason. So fingers crossed in 3 months my levels will be back to normal. ## Yes, it is sometimes prescribed that way, if someone is having trouble hitting normal levels, and getting it under control is vital to your being able to conceive. The U.S. FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, hair loss, mood swings, and weight changes. How long have you been taking this new dosage regimen?

I had a total thyroid removal in June 2014. Was 1st put on 124mg of Levothyroxine, later 112 mg and swelling in both feet and legs began. My left leg looked like a stove pipe along with my swollen feet and toes. I developed hammer toes next to my large toe. Later I was placed on the 100mcg and the swelling continued. I spoke with my endorcrinologic who told me she could not help me but to speak with my general practitioner. To make a long story short I went to a heart doctor, had a mapping of my legs and found out I had small veins. I was told I had Lymphedema and was referred to a clinic. I did not go to this doctor. I started reading others emails on swelling and started cutting my pills like 3/4 in size on 10-20-2016. As of today I lost about 5lbs in weight and my right foot looks gr...

I take Levothyroxin 100 mcg and replaced by Thyronorm 100 mg. is this comprable dosage and same effect? ## 1000 micrograms (mcg)= 1 milligram (mg) 100 mcg= .1 mg Since thyronorm and levothyroxine are one in the same medication (just different brand names), it becomes clear to me that levothyroxine 100mcg is a significantly smaller dose than thyronorm 100mg. That said, you will probably notice the difference in strength when switching to thyronorm. However I certainly wouldn't be able to tell you how this will effect you in comparison to your previous dosage, as everyone reacts to these medications differently. I hope this helps! ## Hi, I was on medication for hypothyroidism for 7 years.... Having Thyronorm 50mcg till now and with recent tests my doctor changed my medicine to levothy...

I am a 28 yr old mother of 3. I had my thyroid removed in 2004 im currently taking 100 mcg's of levothyroxine and for the past 4 months i've rapidly losst weight do i need to have my dosage lowered or increased. I feel depressed all the time and have no energy i dont know what to do i dont want to lose anymore weight i actually want to gain my weight back what do i do? ## Let me say that I can understand what you described and how you feel. I also had a full thyroidectomy and while I have not had the drastic changes you've experienced I have had weight fluctuation as well as what I would call moodiness. How closely are you being followed by your endocrinologist(s)? If you have rapid weight loss combined with depression I would call the endocrinologist and get all of the nece...

I have been prescribed the above med and been on it for 1 mnth, still feeling lethargic, retaining water and battling to lose weight. How long does it take to start working? ## It really depends on your thyroid values, you may need another dosage adjustment. In most cases, doctors wait about 3 months, to see if there is any change. The NIH lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, hair loss, itching, and weight changes. What dosage are you currently taking? Are you on any other medications?

I have been taken thyroid meds. For about 4/5 yrs now if not longer. Well I stopped taking them another 3 months ago, I ran out and just never got any more. My question is can you have bad itching on your arms from stop taking the meds. I have tried everything and nothing really helps .please help me ?? ## After 3 months, it likely isn't due to the medications, but it could be due to your thyroid disorder. Thyroid issues have been known to cause such itching, according to the NIH. You may also experience weight changes and mood changes. Why did you stop taking it? Are you on any other medications? ## Hi thank you for taking your time and answering me. I must say ,it was not long after I stopped taking them that the itching started .it has been going on for so long now I really don...

Hi, I have the flu. Last night I took some Dayquil, (Nyquil makes me sleep for days). I have hypothyroidism & didn't take the levothyroxine because of the contraindications that I found on the web. My question is how long should I wait before taking the levothyroxine after taking 15ml of the dayquil? The meds I use are just proair (asthma), levothyroxine (hypothyroidism), & vitamin C. I'd be asking my Dr but she is in the Bahamas for 3 weeks.

I took Levoxyl for about 10 years. I have tried almost all other drugs synthroid, unithroid, armour, cytomel and Levoxyl worked the best, when it went off the market they put me on generics and that didn't work. I than tried tirosint that was stronger than my 137 mg levoxyl. When I heard Levoxyl was again available I got my prescription refilled and thought I'm going to feel better again. I did'nt, I'm not sure that they haven't changed the formulation . Has anyone else had the same situation? ## I've taken it for 24 years prior to it going off the market & always felt fine. Since it was reintroduced I also have not felt well. In fact on the same dose, my TSH was 19.8 when analyzed 11/2015!! Doc has no answer for me. Thinks it is absorption problem. I told hi...

I have been taking Levothyroxine 25mcg since July of 2010 and have been doing well on it. I have been wondering, being that the name of the med is "Levothyroxine Sodium", exactly how much (if any) Sodium is in the pill according to the dosage amount? Being that i'm trying to watch my sodium content i'm really curious about this. I have searched, and searched on the web and cannot find the answer i'm looking for. Maybe, and hopefully I can find my answer here. ## This doesn't refer to actual sodium as an ingredient, it refers to the type of chemical salt that the medication is made from. Thus, there is no reason to worry about your pills, any elements that may be in there are just trace amounts. This has to be done, to make medications safe for people with conditi...
