The Truth About Life On Methadone
UpdatedMethadone can work, it has worked for me. I haven't had opiates in over 10 years and have no craving at all for it, Thank God! It has worked and I no longer need or want opiates, but here I am over a decade down the line a slave to a chemist, after my partner died suddenly, with an aneurysm 4 years ago. The Dr seems to be just happy im stable. I dont have to go to a chemist daily. When I lost my partner they let me pick it up twice a week. And because im clean I do have that little bit more trust with my workers. At my last appt. I told them I want off it, my wee lassies 10 now. I want off it before she finds out. Im on 65ml which isnt a lot I know ppl on 150 ml but next script im going down 2ml lol n anno I wont feel it at all. I got down to 1n a half ml before...n my Mam had it measured out for me n in my head, I needed that. Then the boy who was my 1st real boyfriend, my puppy love from 17-22 years old got murdered. We by this time were finished and id met my late Fiance. We were living together. But it did hit me hard and I slipped back. My Fiance made me an appt n the following week I was on another Methadone script. Life moved on i got pregnant, I wanted off it but wasnt allowed. So our wee girl was given an opiate every few hours to wean her off. And if anyone of you read this n think anything you say will make me feel worse. Your very wrong. Thankfully she didnt suffer thanks to the meds and she was free of them very quickly. I will never forgive myself for that though. Anyway my Fiances 4th anniversary is fast approaching, todays his birthday. So all I can advise as far as Methadone goes, is if you are really serious yes it does help. But you are tied to a chemist. A slave to it. Dont go on it thinkin..I take that n it'll square me up till I score. N think carefully opiate withdrawal lasts 4-6 days, physically. Mentally, that depends on you really. Methadone is a lot harder to get off. I'll probably still be coming off it a year from now. Ppl say ur swapping one addiction for another. You are. But you have Drs monitoring it. If I could go back in time. Id stock up on valium, codeine n a few others n sweat it out. But I've never done that...I took the easy option. I felt ok while withdrawing from opiates. Wish I knew then what I know now.
