The New Law Of Safety Classes To Take Now For Fentanyl Patch
UpdatedHey All, I was placed on the 50MG Fentanyl Patch in 2005. First told by my doctor's to change it every 3 days Then a week later I was told by a different doctor but, at the same clinic to change my patch every 48 hours. The first 2 years on the patch I did change it every 48 hours. I also was able to workout every day with it on and that helped my illness so very much to stay in shape! If I had missed one day of not changing my patch? I noticed in the morning I would get this horrible feeling all over my body like I had to keep stretching my legs out and my arms etc. Also an overall feeling of sickness. Then I remembered I didn't change my patch the night before. After incidents like them I started to separate the days on my patch more and more by doing this: I'd place the new one on and keep the old one on the other shoulder. Normally most people have to change their patch every 72 hours. I won't go into my illnesses. But, overall the patch did work for the main pain I was in everyday. After a few months of keeping my old patch on and placing a new one on I started to make this change to the new patch once every 4 days with the last one I placed on that's already been on my other shoulder for days. And I'd keep doing this until I was able to place my new patch on now to this day once a week without having to keep on the older patch. I did this because of all the news that came out about how dangerous this medicine can actually be. And how many deaths that are related to this medicine.
Yes, I know a lot of people are addicts and they abuse the drug. However, I was not about to ever want to go into a withdrawal feeling on the Fentanyl Patch ever again! Also I dont know if you heard about the woman who died from fumes of a the Fentanyl patch? But, apparently there was a bad batch made of this drug and the fumes of this drug when they opened it to put it on was so strong it could kill you. I was furious as to why I was never notified about a bad batch that was out there. Either by the pharmacist that I've been getting my medicines from for past 15 years or the doctor's who have me on this medicine in those 15 years. Why I was never told about a bad batch of Fentanyl Patches out there? That really scared me. Now there is a new law that's in effect that started April 23, 2017 I do believe, stating that your spouse or friend or mother or father who ever you live with has to take a one day class for 90 minutes that teaches them how to administer a drug called: "Naloxone" & my husband took the class. They give you a safety lock box that has a combination on it to keep your medications in. Lot's of excellent information about drug interactions with every all types of narcotic drugs. And if you accidentally go into an overdose, this class teaches the person who's living with you, all the signs of what a person looks like and does when they're in an overdose state of mind. I highly recommend this class to everyone who's on any narcotic medication.
The drug to keep the person alive until and ambulance & paramedics comes is totally free and they give a very big kit and lot's of very educational material to read and how to administer the drug which is either by a shot or nasal spray. The box I keep all my medications in and the kit to save my life in case of any type of overdose my husband keeps by the bedside. It is a law out now & all police officers are trained & carry this Naloxone to save lives! Find out on the internet where the class in in your area and take the class and they will send this drug to save someone's life to them by mail. Meantime they give a very nice size lock case with combination lock for all your meds and as I said earlier a lot of information that's excellent to read about every drug out there and interaction drugs. Now the clinic I go to every month, I will have the proof my husband had the class has told & he feels much better and well knowledged now if anything was to ever happen to myself. Also has you do get older and on long term narcotics it doesn't have to be an overdose that can hurt you with narcotics. It can be kidney failure and many other problems that can start to happen within your body from taking medications that are powerful every single day.. It's good you use a cover for your patch to stay on good. Switch your shoulder's each time you change the patch-wash hands thoroughly after applying your patch. And be aware of everything you place into your mouth has far as OTC or meds from your doctor(s). Always be honest when in a hospital and something's going wrong with you. Tell the doctor's everything you take for sure. They could give you something thinking they're helping you & you may not have wanted to tell them you took something because you were afraid! But, you need to tell them everything you're taking. It is a matter between life & death. Drugs are extremely serious! Try & take regular narcotics only if you really need it and not everyday such as Oxycodone and other drugs has such. In the long run it will be easier to get off. God Bless.
