What type of odor are you referring to? Something from the person being treated with it or from the medication?
If it is from the person being treated, it could be Lactic Acidosis, which can be quite dangerous and they should see their doctor immediately or go to the nearest emergency treatment facility.

If you are referring to the medication itself, then it is normal for it to have an odor. Depending on the manufacturing process, it can be much more noticeable from some tablets.
