Terrible Side Effects From Methylprednisolone

I was prescribed the 4mg pack to help me with neck and shoulder pain. As soon as I finished the last pill, my blood pressure shot up to 170/100, my ears started ringing and whirring, my head started aching, and my appetite dropped. It is now 8 days since taking the meds, and I've been to the ER twice. I'm now on blood pressure meds to try and control the blood pressure problem. Has anyone else had these problems? How long can I anticipate having this before it finally subsides? I had perfect blood pressure before this mess.

I have completed the dose pack a week ago, and, I too, have high blood pressure now, (my normal WAS 120/80. It's now 150's over mid 90's). I believe that high bp is from the dose pack. And, no, the side effects don't go away within 3-4 days. I am still struggling with nausea, sleeplessness, heart pounding and no appitite. It's been 7 days for me now, and I'm not getting any better.
Hi. I had a PLIF L3-S1 surgery back in 2001. I have been on every pain pill on the market and developed addiction issues due to the years of these evil pills. I had and MRI in Fen 2016 and all looks good with the hardware. My primary put me on a dose pack for a sinus infection and the radicular pain in my hips, thighs and calves went away. Once I finished the dose pack the pains came back. I got a second dose pack and took 4 mg a day to keep the discomfort at bay while I perform physical therapy to increase my core strength. I am now out of the medication and the same pains are back. For example, my legs feel like I ran 5 miles the minute I get out of bed and my quality of life sucks again. Is it safe to stay on 4mg of methyl prednisone for flare ups? I did not have to take the medicine everyday but it is the only non narcotic that helps with the pain post surgery. Please advise. Sincerely
Matt
Hello, Sammie! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having.
Most steroids, including this one, can cause elevated heart rate and blood pressure, but they generally don't linger beyond 3 or 4 days after finishing the course of treatment with them.
Have you consulted your PCP? There is a possibility that you just developed high blood pressure and the medication didn't cause it., usually the elevations aren't that extreme with them, unless you're on a high dose for a long period of time.
