Telmisartan 40
UpdatedCurrently, Telmisartan 40 is marketed in india by several companies. As advised by doctor, I have been taking taking telsartan 40 tablets (1 tab./day) since 4 years. Recently, while purchasing medicines at the pharmacy, I came to know about another product called telsartan 40 aciv. Both compositions appear to be same. Cost of 30 'Telsartan 40' tablets (3 strips of 10 each) is roughly about Rs. 345, whereas the cost of a bottle containing 30 'Telsartan 40 Activ' tablets is Rs. 90 only. Both are the products of Dr. Reddy's Laboratory. I would like to know if both are same and should I buy Telsartan 40 activ bottle instead of Telsartan 40 tablets, since the later is seems to be cost effective.

i am surprised to see no response at all to this query. please....can someone with knowledge answer this question?
Hi, snmk! I'm sorry you haven't received any response.
I think the main issue is that you are in India, so it's difficult for people from other countries to be certain as to whether or not they are both the same.
The best suggestion I can make is that you ask the pharmacist where you purchase your medication. They should have more information on them and will be able to let you know if they are exactly the same medication.
Does anyone else know more?
Thanks Verwon. I have talked to the pharmacist, but could not get satisfactory response. Hope, someone from this forum is able to answer.
If your doctor has prescribed Telsartan 40, then it contains same salt as that of Telsartan Activ 40 i.e. Telmisartan (40mg).
However, if your doctor has prescribed Telsartan H 40, then there are two salts in it namely Hydrochlorothiazide (12.5mg) and Telmisartan (40mg) so it is different from Telsartan Activ 40.
No doubt you sorted this out by now, but I see that the "Global Generics - India" section of Dr Reddy's website says:
"Since compliance is critical to BP control, we have introduced Activ range (monthly pack) for our prominent hypertension brands - Atocor (Atorvastatin) and Telsartan (Telmisartan). An innovative packaging concept, it helps in driving adherence to therapy."
But this remains confusing, because I don't understand why simply using a small bottle instead of strips would drive adherence. Nor does this explain the price discrepancy. Regardless, both products clearly contain Telmisartan as the active ingredient.
