Tapering Off Ambien

Hi. Kinda stressed over tapering off of ambien under my doctors supervision. Tonight I start taking 3/4 ambien for a week then 1/2 for a week and then 1/4/for a week.

I'm dreading it and very concerned I won't sleep at all. I've taken it for about 2 years. He anticipates my sleep being disturbed more heavily by the time I get to 1/4.

Has anyone done this before. What can I expect. Arg. I'm thinking it's going to be horrible. But currently with it I'm can't sleep past 6 hours at all. And feel kinda numb emotionally during the day.

I understand your concern and yes, you will most likely have trouble sleeping for awhile, until your body gets used to being without the medication.

Other withdrawal effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, headache and nervousness.

Have you discussed other options with your doctor, such as something you can use to help you sleep, while tapering off of it?
