Tapering Bp Meds; Side Effects;
UpdatedSince mid Feb. 2015, I have tapered my BP meds (candesartan-16mg from 32mg; HCT-dropped from 25mg; Amlodipine-5mg) on my PCP's advice as it appears to be increasing my blood creatinine levels. Although my BP has remained normal (117/68 p66) since and indeed gone down, I continue to experience intermittent/sporadic 'burns/tingles' on various parts of my left arm (e.g., outside elbow, fingers, triceps, above wrist, etc.) and upper shoulder. Also, sometimes, I feel activity/heat in my left chest area. My PCP and cardiologist say that as long as my BP is okay and I am able to sustain my workouts that I should not worry. My weekly exercise routine is; 3 hours of heavy weightlifting, 2 hours of singles tennis, 2 hours-biking, and 80 minutes on an elliptical. My heart does not feel fatigued during my workouts, but my burns seen to be more pronounced afterwards. I have no other side effects. Ps., I am a 58 year old male and have been on these meds for about 10-15 years. Is this a normal/typical withdrawal process?

Hello, Sachmok! How are you?
Yes, that can happen, when tapering down on such medications. The reason is because they have an effect on circulation, that's how most of them work to lower blood pressure. Thus, if nothing else is wrong, as per your cardiologist and PCP, then what you're feeling is most likely just your body readjusting itself back to normal, as you decrease the medications.
Other withdrawal effects may include dizziness, headache, elevated heart rate and elevated blood pressure, as listed by the FDA.
Is there anything else I can help with?
Thanks Verwon. Fortunately, the 'activity' in my chest area has stopped and my BP still controlled (115/67) at lowered meds. Not having any other side effects! The other symptom...burns/tingles in left elbow and hands seems to come from a pinched nerve in my upper back. I have had xrays and will follow up with an MRI. Currently applying cryo/ thermo therapy and taking pain meds.
