Talwin Nx For Pain Relief

Updated

20 yrs of back problems, degenerative discs, numb lower legs/ankles, severe hip pain. Dr's prescribe me everything (that makes me ill or that I will get addicted to) except what works without a (buzz) or adverse side effects (such as Talwin NX). I was just prescribed morphine extended release, which mad me feel very ill. Told my doctor about the bad effects, and I was told he will not change meds, "you have the number 1 pain med in the US, get used to it."
I researched online and found that Talwin is the least addictive pain medication taken orally. I just need a doctor who is willing to treat my pain with this as the surgery did not cure me. Need clues as to which dr. in West Kentucky will help. Please.

No, Morphine is not the number one pain medication in the U.S., I am not sure where he came up with that, it is very well known to cause problems such as yours.

The most commonly used medication now is Oxycodone, in its various formulations, such as Oxycontin.

As to finding another doctor, I'm sure there are pain management specialists in your area, have you considered using one of them?

There is, however, no way of guaranteeing what they are going to want to prescribe, either.

Oxycodone is the most addictive of all opiates. New brain imaging breakthroughs have shown that it "rewires" the brain, according to the researchers. Taking over many neural pathways. I was on Morphine for six months, high doses, and withdrawal from it was nothing compared to Oxy I only used for three months before telling my Doc, NO MORE. Very shortly after taking it, you will need to double the dose because the tolerance goes up so fast. It's poison.

In this atmosphere of narcotic hysteria, one would think Talwin nx would be available to all at a cheap price. The last thing the big Pharma wants is a cheap pain med that has been out for at least 35 years. The FDA and the DEA are both bought by the industry. It's why they are trying to eliminate hydrocodone that costs less than fifty cents, and force people in pain to pay $7 a pill for the same drug but not mixed with a second analgesic. We are living in a country that has long been run by criminals.

I had Talwin years ago it works. Lots of docs look over it cause they make more money prescribing oxy and morphine. But there are still docs in Tn. And Ky that will listen if properly you addressed the subject. That's helps you.

I so totally agree Dave! 10+ yrs ago, 2003, I had a doc prescribing me, check this out, 150, YES ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY mg of fentanyl patches every 72 hrs, +8 a day: 2/10 mg lortab + a script I had to use a local herbalist to fill of pure hydrocodone for "breakthrough" pain! Now I honestly BEGGED to wean off the fentanyl (duragesic) patches bc #1, price and most importantly #2 afraid of one day if they stopped being effective and having nothing stronger to use! She refused saying, and I quote, "you need it"! After a lengthy and not so lawful way, (with a caring old pharmacist trusting me not to turn him in for helping me get OFF what I didn't feel I needed, YET), I was able to wean myself off of the patches in appx 6 months! I proceeded to have neck surgery having 2 plates implanted in 2007 and told with my DDD the others (discs) would follow. Well, here I am now, 2017, with lumbar stenosis, bulging, hernated discs, severe DDD top to bottom, spurs everywhere, FMS..to name only a few problems, and having been told, per spine specialist June 2015 to stop working until stated otherwise, to the present doc saying he can't yet release me to work and will not release me, but says I'm not "disabled"? and yet cannot get ANY form of help via disability, unemployment, nothing :( having another CAT scan of my cervical done last week and told my spine is literally in layman terms, falling apart! :( I see a PM doc which is now the 3rd I've tried due to docs caring less of the pain I endure than the $60 copay each month! I also showed my butt tues when I, for the FIFTH month now in a row have spent $300 for the NURSE to see me, give me scripts and leave without seeing my DOCTOR! I apologize for so lengthy, I'm just in such severe pain, needing SOMETHING, ANYTHING different than what I'm currently prescribed which currently is four 75mg nucynta a day, celebrex, cymbalta, (lyrica is too expensive), parafon forte during the day and zanaflex at night and good ole 100 mg ultram, aka glorified aspirin, for "breakthrough" pain! :( I take ambien to sleep yet fell asleep at 6:15 this MORNING due to severe pain, numbness and overall lack of life left in me to fight! :( Husband, children and grandchildren are my only reason to TRY! Smart thing is express concerns to my doc right? Well, for 5 months the nurse tells me that's something I'll have to speak to the "invisible" doctor about! WHEN I DO see him once or twice a year, he gives me lumbar inj's. which are fantastic, just can only get 3 per yr and it lasts great for about a month so the remaining 9 months I live in tormented pain :( If anyone lives in S.C., Greenville / Anderson area with a doc that CARES and is actually able to be SEEN, PLEASE I BEG of you to let me know! And/or know how or who I can speak to about help with income would also be appreciated :)

So sorry but Federal & State agencies have been vigorously discouraging doctors from prescribing opioid drugs for chronic pain. At this point your pain may have become neuropathic pain. You may actually get better relief using a combination of Effexor and Gabapentin. They work as a combination to block pain impulses in the spinal cord and brain. Ask your doctor if he would try you on this combination along with medication for breakthrough pain such as Vicoprofen or Norco.

The combination needs to be started at a low dose and gradually increased each week until you have good pain control without intolerable adverse effects. The combination needs to be taken daily to control the pain, not taken just when it hurts too much. You will probably have some breakthrough pain even with the best medicine combinations for your chronic pain so you will continue to need the Vicoprofen or Norco or Percocet to use just for the breakthrough pain. You will not be completely pain free and will have to adjust to a low level of pain by using rest, restricted activities, massage, heat packs, etc..

Tasha,

It's really difficult to decipher what your post is all about you contradicted yourself several times. If you require a new doctor you'll need a referral from your pcp but chances are you'll have to live with some level of pain since CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGIST so articulately conveyed regarding the restrictive mandates that require docs to limit the prescribing of powerful cds's.
