Taking Subutex And Percocet Together (Page 31) (Top voted first)

Updated

My doctor just put me on subutex along with percocet. I've been on percocet for yrs for severe and chronic migraines. He told me to take the subutex and if it doesn't work to take a percocet. I usually take 15 mg percocet at a time. I've read some stuff online that worries me. Some people say if you take percs with subutex you'll go into withdrawals. I went through severe withdrawals with fioricet months ago and I don't want to go through that hell again. I took my first subutex about an hour ago and I still have a migraine so I want to take a perc now. Can I do that or will I get sick?

DAVID: Thank you!! I am constantly amazed at how many people put drugs into their bodies, when they have no clue how these drugs work! And what's WORSE, these same people turn around and have the NERVE to start dispensing "advice"! Every time I comment on this, I think "Ok, that's it, I'm done.. let them think what they want!" But then I remember the hell that I went through with precipitated withdrawals (from Subutex, NOT Suboxone) and I would hate for someone else to go through it because they listened to some of this mis-information. "Normal" withdrawal is NOTHING compared to precips! So th

CM: Yes, if you took Subutex 8 to 12 hours after the Vicodin, I'm sure you were fine. If you took the Subutex an hour or 2 after the Vicodin, it ABSOLUTELY have been a different story. And then taking Vicodin AFTER the Subutex wouldn't be a problem. This isn't an "everyone is different" situation, this is a medical, chemical fact.

What I am is a Vicodin prescribed patient who has a dependency from taking it for 3 years, thus, WD's occur. I am not a running-the-street ADDICT who can't control himself and takes it for FUN! So yes, you are correct in saying I have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to taking these opiates illegally & for fun because I obviously am uncomfortable, as you are, with living life as myself. Also, worth mentioning, is look at the original question. This person is also not an addict who ran around looking to feel high because they cannot stand to be in their own skin. It is someone who was prescribed pain medication for NECESSARY treatment and she/he had a simple question. BTW, if you are so knowledgeable about recovery, how this works for everyone, you might want to check that step referencing "humbleness". What you put all over this page is picking on everyone telling them they don't know squat and telling them you know it all because you are in recovery and working at a rehab (yet you have certainly not mastered any steps).

You sound like one angry person who perhaps should learn to deal with such anger. Additionally, the same does not apply to everyone when taking Subutex with something such as Vicodin. One would, firstly & most obviously, need to consider the dosage(s); the strengths & how many taken daily; the person themselves. I knew a fella such as yourself that was hooked on percocets and he'd take 5-6 at a time, and he'd chew them up. Well, most people who take percocets get tired. This guy was a jumping bean. He was so hyper it was ridiculous. So obviously that medicine affected him differently. And this is the case in MANY situations. You are just saying, I read this, and so this is what it is. Having finished my diatribe, I suggest you get in some therapy to help yourself deal with YOU. You are obviously a bitter and angry person, as evidenced by you attacking anyone's experiences outlined on this forum. If you knew everything, you wouldn't be living your life in a rehab. You'd actually be living LIFE (and attending a meeting, even daily if necessary), and would be a part of that life. But you are now addicted to your program, which you aren't working with a crap. Get a new sponsor, as the one you have now is failing you.

@My name is none of your business,

The naloxone in suboxone is only activated when administered intravenously (not orally) - whereas the information you posted implies that it'll cause withdrawals no matter what.

The proof is in the pudding. For example: Just look at "Targin" tablets manufactured by Mundipharma, which contains Oxycodone + Naloxone. Obviously Naloxone wouldn't be there if it blocked the Oxycodone when taken orally (as prescribed).

Thank you!!!! I'm going to have knee replacement surgery. I'm currently taking 2 suboxone a day! What u r saying is I have to switch over to subutex so I can take the pain meds!!!! I will have to talk to my sub Dr as well as my surgeon! You have been so helpful with the correct information which I appreciate greatly! (I was severely addicted to fiorinal#3 when I stopped taking it my migraines went away which is why I was on it! Amazing)

you can most def take the perc. I have to take oxycontin OP 3 times a day for pain. They had me take my suboxone later that day. so you will fine! its taking suboxone to close to taking perc's etc that can put some people into precipitated withdrawls

I take subutex all of the time within hours.of taking a perc. Feels great! I am not dependant on anything so idk if that makes a difference. But the sub after the perc is an awesome feeling.

u have every right to do a C Section (even if u have no medical reason to get one),,Alot of people dont know that..I had one scheduled, but went into labor prior to my C section date..And it was cus I was scared to death of the pain, I have 2 kids, my other is 17yrs old (wasnt on any opiates) and I had him natural, so wanted to do a c section with the younger one..DEF talk to ur dr about that and/or epidural..I thought FOR SURE, i wud get an Epidural ! But come to find out my Dr didnt do Epidurals for some dumb reason. I was early enough into labor to get it too..When I requested, Nurse said "who is ur Dr again?" I told her and she had this look on her face like "ur screwed" Anyways went the natural route, again..I was on 8mg of Subutex when I had my youngest son. Drs and Nurses pulled me aside after he was born to ask questions ( i was one of the few first to give birth on Subs so they wanted to document some info) they were extremly satisifed with the results, baby was healthy, the main thing was he was a bit restless, but that didnt kick in til 24hrs after he was born. Temp ran a tad higher than usual, and he had some involuntary twitches, his lil hands and arms wud shake, about 3-4 times a day..They said it was from the subs leaving his system, and I felt horrible..They were all really nice to me, and didnt judge me, thankfully...Sub Dr wanted me to go on Methadone when I told him I was pregnant, but I refused, (at this time their was lil to no studies for babies being born on Subs) But i put my faith in God, and went with my gut instict which was stay on Subutex & I am glad I did. Ur baby may not sleep long hours like typical new borns do at first..Be very patient, I hardly ever let my son in the nursery, he was with me ALL the time in the hospitol, I felt like, Im the one who caused him to cry more and sleep less, so I will be the one to comfort him, hold him and stay up with him no matter how tired I was..The hardest part was when I was discharged and my son had to stay an extra day/nite..Of course I stayed for hours at the hospitol and the next day I went to see him they said "dr cleared him to go home" and It was the happiest day of my life. He had no more twitching, temp was normal for a newborn,(wasnt ever in NIC UNIT) heart rate was normal..I know what u mean when u say of all times u need to be on ur reg dose, ur body gets terribly uncomforable when ur pregnant ADD that to being on subs which lower ur pain tolerance in general.. I wish I had someone to speak to when i was pregnant, I was so nervous at times, but always kept my faith my God. Again my son is now 6yrs old, he met everyone of his milestones, and was always above average when it came to his motor skills, and has always been extremely smart, at 14months old he cud pointe to every animal/bird in a picture book (over 30 different creatures) he was potty trained 3 months after his 2nd birthday, has no issues, like add or adhd, or any temperament issues.. I heard soo many horror stories about the babies on methadone having to stay in hospitol for a month and be sent home with morphine to taper them off, and they wont give the mother the morphine, someone else has to be in charge of administiering the dose, from what ive heard. So im glad ur on subs and not methadone. U also wont need to bring ur prescription to the hosptol (alhtough u may want to just to be safe) the hospitol provided me with my dose every morning...Def estimate the time ur giving birth and get enough subs to last you a month so u dont have to worry about going back to dr every week when ur at home taking care of baby, and etc..Blessings to you and Your baby, you will be in my thoughts and prayers..

Why would you take an opiate with Subutex unless you are either prescribed it or for recreational use? Most people who are given Subutex are given that to help come off of or stay off of traditional opiates. When you ask if you will "feel it", do you mean to ask if you will feel "high"? If you are trying to feel high maybe you need to enter a rehab facility. I was hooked on my pain pills and went through OP rehab. I started on Suboxone but was transitioned to Subutex after I was released from the rehab facility to my new pain clinic. I do have legitimate pain that needs to be addressed, but I can't take opiates without abusing them. Actually, the Subutex helps my pain far better than taking four 15mg Oxycodone ever thought to!! I take three 8mg buprenorphine sublingual tabs daily. It's been a life saver for me!! I have 132 days sober from any mind altering substances and love it!!! I hope you aren't trying to abuse opiates, but if you are please get help! I wasted 6 good years of my life in pain pill addiction! Life is great now!!!

I have a email come through my phone and it's another person talking about if subtext and suboxone will put you threw withdrawal. Can't we talk about something else. If you want to get clean your going to do it.

JUST ME: Here we go again. You are completely incorrect. BUPRENORPHINE ITSELF is also a "blocker", so yes, the same does apply. Just not as much. You can probably get away with doing Subutex a little sooner than Suboxone (as long as it is a very small amount) but Subutex ITSELF is a partial opioid antagonist (scientific term for "opiate blocker") so Subutex can and will give you precipitated withdrawals. I have been through them personally.

You cant! You are absolutely correct! Subtext has no narcan and therefore it will NOT make you withdraw! The ONLY way you can withdraw from if you are taking an opiate and then you take asuboxone (the kind with narcan) then you will go into severe withdraw however, anyone already on suboxone and then takes an opiate WILL NOT go into withdraw. The opiate receptors will just kick it away because the narcan will not release the opiate receptors. That's why the docs wait until your withdraw to give you the first dose of suboxone. ( they actually give you subtext first to make sure they don't put you in full blown withdraw just incase you weren't fully in withdraw. Then they'll give you the script for suboxone to get filled at the pharmacy. Once you're on suboxone, any other kind of opiate will not phase you. The narcan won't give up the receptors! I know I'm a ten year vet at this!
And finally free from all of it THANK YOU GOD! I still get the occasional headaches but nothing excedrine migraine won't get rid of!
Good luck to all of you!

Hello all, I see the same ole argument is still raging over taking a buprenorphine based drug with or on top of and after an opiate. Kkh describes it best and is very knowledgeable on the subject. I'm an addict in recovery and I have made this mistake by taking some suboxone too soon, very bad, I mean bad withdrawal. The naloxone in suboxone is to deter iv abuse only it does nothing when taken orally. When taken intravenously it's a craps shoot. Now only way and I repeat the only way you can mix the two / now this is where ya have to really pay attention now.... the only possible way to not get precipitated withdrawal from SUBUTEX. YES SUBUTEX AND OR SUBOXONE (YES SUBOXONE) is to take a very very small dose ORALLY OF SUBUTEX OR SUBOXONE and a VERY VERY SMALL DOSE OF AN OPIATE IN THIS ORDER.... SUBUTEX/SUBOXONE FIRST, THEN A TINY DOSE OF OPIATE. Now again that's a small dose of the bupe based drug first then afterwards a small dose of an opiate. This doesn't even ensure you wont get ill. Now get this, I said either subutex or suboxone ok. Now check this out to the tried and true combination users...lol right... now I will guarantee that if you have opiates in your system and take suboxone or subutex yes I said either you will... yes WILL go into withdrawal.

Now im not trying to sound like a smarty pants or anything, as it's a known scientific fact. I've just seen where an actual quote was posted from the drug information fact site. I suggest ya don't mix a buprenorphine based drug with an opiate period. I also suggest that you examine your logic and thought process if your going to take advice from an individual who suggests you can mix the two substances. Like I said before its the equivalent to taking an anti-diarrhea medication with a laxative. Please take kkh and other's advice on this subject; they are knowledgeable on this subject. Thanks and best of luck to you all.

WOOOW.....You need to just stick with the subutex! The only reason to not take them since you are pregnant is because you are pregnant!! So if you stop, this would harm the baby even worse. As for trying to get on more medication, namely pain medication WHILE PREGNANT??? Really.....this makes me so disgusted to read this. You baby is going to come out addicted and will be in the NICU just to get weined off of narcotics because you cant stop taking them yourself whille your pregnant. Do us all a favor and you baby and just stooop!

Re: Pinky33 (# 565) Expand Referenced Message

You are wrong when you say that Suboxone "has the blocker" and that Subutex does not. The Buprenorphine ITSELF is a "blocker". Bupe is a partial opioid AGONIST, partial ANTAGONIST. The ANTAGONIST part acts as what you are calling a "blocker". In fact, the Naloxone in Suboxone is only there to keep people from injecting it. When taken sublingually (under the tongue) Naloxone is only around 5% bioavailable. So when taken properly, it is really only the Bupe that is doing any "blocking". The Naloxone virtually does nothing unless it's injected. People who think you can use full agonist opioids side by side with Subutex, because they mistakenly think the Subs contain "no blocker" could be in for a rude awakening. Precipitated withdrawals are from HELL!!!

Its easy and simple: subutex and percocet can be taken together without withdrawls. You WILL NOT get a euphoric feeling like when you take percs alone. Suboxane: take a perc then wait about 3 hours to take suboxane. If you take the suboxane first, wait 6-8 hours to take a perc so you don't get sick. Suboxane shelf life is 24 hours its half life is 12. This means it'll take 12 hours after taking suboxane before you will feel the euphoric feeling of percs and 24 hours until it is completely out of your system.

No. You won't get any effect from the Percs. Subutext blocks all opiates. No effect what so ever. Your Doctor doesn't know what he's doing. You won't have withdrawals because Subutex and Suboxen are vary different. Suboxen will give you withdrawals not Subutex. Trying to help.l

How old is this information? You should not post info if you dont know what your talking about at all. Subutex and suboxone are induced the exact same way. Buprenorphine causes precipitated withdrawal. Nalaxone is inactive when taken sublingually...i cant believe so many people liked this info? Crazy.
