My doctor just put me on subutex along with percocet. I've been on percocet for yrs for severe and chronic migraines. He told me to take the subutex and if it doesn't work to take a percocet. I usually take 15 mg percocet at a time. I've read some stuff online that worries me. Some people say if you take percs with subutex you'll go into withdrawals. I went through severe withdrawals with fioricet months ago and I don't want to go through that hell again. I took my first subutex about an hour ago and I still have a migraine so I want to take a perc now. Can I do that or will I get sick?

Ok, let me clarify this for everyone. I read all kinds of diluted information on threads like these all the time. Buprenorphine (subutex) is an opiate agonist and antagonist. I have been a paramedic for 5 years and I used to take a high dose of subutex. Here is the deal... taking subutex and a painkiller at the same time, one will cancel the other out. You will not go into withdrawl. The short acting opioid will have a sedative affect if anything. For another opioid to be effective at all while on subutex, a larger dose is all that isnecessary. I do not suggest taking both at the same time. Stagger them. The opioid will not be extremely effective but it wont make you withdrawl. I know this from both first hand experience and treating patients.

You know what guys? It looks to me that noone knows what they are talking about. I came onto this post to see if I could get some answers but now have even more questions. To be honest...everyone on here is an addict just trying to survive from day to day. We all know that the best thing to do is to follow the directions of your physician to the letter. Everyone is sick of the "ride" but noone knows how to get off. I wish all of you the best of luck with your addictions and hope we all succeed with
our wish to stop.

i took 3/4 subutex this morning and took one 1 and 1/2 perc a cpl hrs later and really dnt feel like I got enough subutex it's like 5 hrs since taking the perk do you think it is safe t take more of my subutex now?

I had 4 wisdom teeth removed last week on Thursday. I stopped taking Subutex 2 days before the procedure hoping it would clear my system so that the percocets would work for my post procedure pain. I took the Subutex for 5-6 months pretty regularly. Anywhere from 16 mg to 1mg up and down as I tried to break free from it. I was only able to do so because of my fear of surgery and not being able to get relief. I had switched myself over from Suboxone after getting clean from a 6 year norco addiction. In the past before Suboxone or subutex I could take one Percocet and feel fine. Now even after being off the subutex for over a week the percocets 5-6 of them do absolutely nothing. I was wondering if anyone else had this experiance.... Thanks. Just curious. It sucks when you need pain relief and nothing works. Thank god the worst is over now!

Oxymorphone is the generic for dilaudid. I'm a pharmacy tech. Lol

Couldn't agree more. Detoxed off many things in my, sadly, 10 years of pretty intense drug use. Detox of prescription oxycodone was by far the worst, even more so than H. Granted was up to around 800-1000mgs oral/nasal daily for months and months, but the withdrawal was UNFATHOMBLE. I was in the worst pain of my life it was too much to take. Literally didn't think i'd make it, but I did, and now here to pass on my story and say be very very careful with the oxys or H, because even tho the oxy withdrawal is worse, they both take over your life without knowing what has happened. DON'T DO IT!!!!!

OK I just got the 54 411 subutex...my.last dose was about 9am this morning which was3 perc 30s....i just took a qtr of the subutex about an hour ago.
..no signs of withdrawal or pre/wd....also in my own personal experience I have taken subutex 8 hours after my last dose and never got pre/wd so I think it's safe to say the 54 411 subutex don't put you into pre wd if you take with opiates I just wouldn't take them so.close together...hope this little bit of info will.help someone out there

You only go into withdrawal if you take SUBOXONE and still have opiates on board, meaning in your system. I have personally IV'ed a 15mg oxycodone because I was sick and couldn't wait for my Subutex. The 15mg didnt cut it so when I did get the Subutex, around 45 minutes later I booted a half of that (4mgs) No withdrawl whatsoever. Again, the only way it really causes withdrawal is if you take SUBOXONE to close after taking another opiate. While on either, SUBOXONE or Subutex you can take any Opiate you want and not worry about withdrawl. You just won't feel the effects of said Opiate because the Bup is whats taking up your receptors and won't be kicked off. So you would basically be just wasting whatever Opiate you tried using.

My mistake..I should have said Oxycodone. The chemical structure is closely related to oxymorophone . My Bad.
I would think if a MD. is prescribing either of the drugs, the risk of fatality is on the doctor, or the person taking it irresponsiblely

I'd would wait 24 hours, due to the blockade effect of the suboxone. I'm having surgery the 23rd, and I'm going to stop my Subutex 24 hours prior to surgery...Remember , these are long acting drugs, so You won't go into hardcore withdrawl. Good luck..!!

nooooo, percodan is oxycodone and asprin! you shoud do your research before yo comment on a forum like this. oxymorphone is opana, waaay stronger than percodan. you are gonna kill someone!

You will not go into withdrawal by taking perc 16 hours after sub. It's actually the other way around. U can possible go into withdrawal if u take sub to soon after other opiates. But since u were taking sub for 5-6 days already and your only taking a couple of perc. Prolly nothing at all will happen. U will prolly not feel much from the perc anyway, and when u get back on sub, u will not go into withdrawal from only one day of using 2 percs. Your really just wasting your percs. Wait another day or so , so u can actually feel something .
