Taking Morphine And Norco In The Same Day (Page 2)

My brother takes 30 mg morphine tablets by prescription every 12 hours. He complains that he is in pain all of the time anyway, even though they are better than the norco 10 mg that he was taking before. My sister-in-law takes norco 10 mg, 6 per day, and he has been begging her to give him 2 - a - day to take in between his morphine. He has, of course, not told his doctor. I want to know what combining these two will do to him? Thanks
Get him stoned or nuggets as we say in Scotland.
Sorry madman, just been one of those days....
I am currently on 15 mg twice a day morphine & it does nothing for my pain, it does help me sleep. I was on Norco 10 mg for years & I honestly think the norcos worked better for my pain. It's different for each individual. But he really needs to talk to his doc before he combines the two meds.
I'm sure they meant 6 x 5mg/day which is standard prescribing procedure for someone who has a small tolerance built up. Take it easy House!!
GO AWAY JASMINE!! WE DON'T NEED YOU YELLING AT US WITH YOUR FRICKIN CAPS LOCK ON!! I CAN SEE YOU ARE FROM DRUG JUSTICE LEAGUE AND PROBABLY BELIEVE THE WAR ON DRUGS IS ACCOMPLISHING SOMETHING.
YOU OBVIOUSLY AREN'T IN PAIN AND KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THESE MEDICATIONS, SO WE WOULD ALL APPRECIATE YOU KEEPING YOUR IGNORANT OPINIONS TO YOURSELF!
I know from personal experience....I've gone through 6-7 surgeries over that past decade and have been on opiates for as long as 3 years. At my highest level I was taking 120mg OxycontinER and 60mg Roxicodone per day & there are others that need more. I asked for help getting off and unfortunately just had a double neck fusion C6/C7/T1....
No one asks for this and I truly wish your brother-n-law the best of luck! Tell him he needs to re-evaluate his condition. You definitely don't want to build a tolerance without the doctor knowing or it WILL appear as drug seeking behavior and he will get nothing.
HE IS A JUNKIE WHY WOULD SHE GIVE HIM HER MEDS THAT'S AGAINST THE LAW HE WILL PROBABLY DIE WITH ALL THOSE MEDS IN HIM AND WHY IS HE IN SO MUCH PAIN WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF HIS PAIN!!
No,the DOCTOR will ABSOLUTLY NOT write a RX for 30mg of oxycodone!! This dose must be worked up to,it is THE STRONGEST dose of IR oxy available! If he writes for ANYTHING like that it will be around 5 or 10mg,max 4 per day..... HOUSE...
They are from the same family of drugs so there should not be a problem.
Actually his doctor should be giving him some of those for break through pain, the morphine is an extended release tablet and should not be the sole medicine he takes for pain.
For your actual question - combining the 2 should help his pain.
I was on Morphine for pain every 12 hours. With Percocet for four times a day for breakthrough pain. I ended up with a problem with the morphine which my body just did not want to absorb absorb. that was changed the morphine that is to Opana every 12 hours 20 milligrams and then 4 Percocet tens for breakthrough pain and it has not been a problem for me I understand your concern you just have to check with the doctor as to what you are capable of taking
I've yet to meet a person on Morphine and Norco or Oxycodone who doesn't want MORE! Must be prescription personally law. Sometimes, one must live with some pain. Addiction isn't good.
Hi, your brother needs to ask his Doctor to prescribe him something for his break thru pain!! I know, I have been on pain medication for years now, and you definitely need a fast acting pain Med. For the break thru pain. His Dr. Will understand he just needs to let him or her know that the long acting morphine isn't working for his pain alone!!
Hi, I suggest that he tell his morphine doctor that he needs something for "break through pain". In which case his doctor can decide what "as needed" medicine would be best for him; whether that be Norcos or Oxycodone (Percocet). Under most circumstances the doctor will write oxycodone 30mg. The morphine is an extended release medication, however, the oxycodone is a fast acting and "as needed" medication. Just for reference, I know this from personal experience. Good luck.
Well, first of all, it would be illegal for her to give them to him and for him to take them, since they are not prescribed for him. Both of them, if caught, could face heavy fines and jail time.
Now, if he did take them, since he's opiate tolerant, he would most likely just experience more side effects, such as nausea, dizziness and drowsiness, as long as he doesn't overdose, as reported by the FDA.
Fast acting or regular release opiates are often prescribed in conjunction with time released medications to try to help someone get better control of their pain, by treating or preventing breakthrough pain.
The best thing to do, especially to ensure he avoids legal trouble and doesn't overdose, would to inform his doctor that his pain is not under control with the current medication and then explore what his other options might be. His doctor may add a medication like Norco, or he may raise his dose of the Morphine.
Is there anything else I can help with?
