I was given 50 mg. of Demerol and 4 mg. of Dilaudid for a headache. I have had many meds before for migraines but I was disoriented for three days and my skin was crawling and I was so weak, is that a high dosages at once?

That would be my guess, the Dilaudid was too strong for you to jump right to it. It is a very strong narcotic, hydromorphone, that is why it is only 4mgs, it is very potent. If you aren't already tolerant to narcotics, then jumping to that dose will cause the problems you were having, as well as some withdrawals if you took a few and then quit taking it altogether. There are other alternatives that you can try, so rather than live with the adverse effects, talk to your doctor about maybe just trying to Demerol for awhile, or Percocet, Vicodin, something like that.
