Is it safe to take Pravastatin past its expiration date?

Pravastatin doesn't become dangerous once it's expired, but it may lose some potency, and thus, might not work as well as it did, when fresh.

However, this is not really a vital life-sustaining medication that must be taken regularly, so if yours are expired, you could conceivably wait a few days to obtain a new supply from your doctor, and pharmacy, unless your doctor has stated otherwise. Pravastatin is used to help lower cholesterol levels.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and joint/muscle aches.

If it isn't too far expired, your doctor, or pharmacist might okay you finishing whatever supply you have on hand, to help save money.
