Taking Vesicare/solifenacin And Pregnancy
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I've just found out that I'm 5 weeks pregnant and am have been taking Vesicare Solifenacin. I have stopped immediately but am now worried that I may have caused some damage. I have read that some babies have been born with defects like muscular, hearing and am now extremelly worried. If anyone has any info at all it would be hugely appreciated. Many thanks

Hello everyone, I am French, I am in the same situation as you had been, I did not find any witness concerning vesicare and pregnant woman .... I use vesicare for my painful bladder which relieves me enormously, but I learned that I was 5 weeks pregnant! so I panic, can I continue to take vesicare throughout my pregnancy? I need your experience please, thanks in advance

Re: AnaD (# 6) Expand Referenced Message

I am on the same boat as you. My OB I just saw her and she was totally OK with me taking it she did not seem worried at all and said to continue. I have been going crazy trying to figure it out that I am just going to relax I have 14 weeks left and only taking it as needed and pray that everything turns out OK ?? I hope you can do the same because being stressed out and worried all the time is also not good..

Re: Jes (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

Hey, hope you're well :) I had my 2nd meeting with my Obstetrician today and am still none the wiser I'm afraid. They literally have no information on pregnant women using this drug as the women who tend to take it are not of a child bearing age. They said exactly the same what every other doctor I had seen said, that there is no known evidence that it could cause damage but risk can not be ruled out. Have you found out anything further at all? Thanks

Re: AnaD (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

Thank you so much for replying! Yes my dr did he was iffy about it but I just recently had a uteral stent placed that has caused some severe urgency that I could no longer tolerate and he put me in Vesicare and I feel some relief. Thank you for keeping me posted I also have found nothing on Vesicare while pregnant.

Re: Jess (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

Hi Jess, I still haven't found out anything. I had a meeting with my Obstetrician and he's going to contact Vesicare and do some research and get back to me. I'll update you as soon as I find out anything. Did your Dr put you on Vesicare? If so than I'm sure it's ok :) I'm based in the UK and haven't found much info here at all

Re: Verwon (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

Thankyou so so much for your reply. I've been so worried about the whole situation and can't seem to obtain any solid advice from anyone so your words mean a lot :) Worrying aside, I'm ok! I have an appointment with a midwife in 2 weeks so I'm hoping I may be able to find out some more or speak to a specialist.

Thanks again!

The U.S. FDA lists this medication as not being known to cause any severe issues, the only reported problem is lower birth weight. Most other studies involved rats, and lab animals, not humans, so other issues have not been attributed to it being taken in pregnant humans.

It should be noted that it has not been studied in a significant number of pregnant women, but in those that have taken it, the FDA has not noted any increased risk of abnormalities, and malformations.

How are you doing? Congratulations on the baby!
