Taking Levsin Over Age 65
UpdatedI take Levsin under the tongue for BPH. The NIH website says people over 65 (aka myself) should usually not take Levsin because it is not as safe and effective as other available medications. Is this something I need to address, or is it not important?

I found the statement that you were referring to:
"talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of taking hyoscyamine if you are 65 years of age or older. Older adults should not usually take hyoscyamine because it is not as safe and may not be as effective as other medications that can be used to treat the same condition."
Unfortunately, in any medical situation, a patient has to be their own best advocate. Doctors often prescribe medications according to their experience with how well something has worked for other patients and, when something goes wrong, they are often reluctant to attribute it to the medication.
I personally think that you should base your decision off of the effectiveness and tolerance of the medication. Whether or not it is doing its job as effectively as you'd like it to; and whether or not you are experiencing any undesirable side effects while taking it. If you feel like your healthy and haven't had any problems or issues with the drug so far I don't see a "need" to change, but I would still let your doctor know about your concern and ask for his opinion.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for reply.
