Taking Levothyroxine Tablets...how?
UpdatedHi everyone, I'm a sufferer from hypothyroidism; I was just wondering about how to take Levothyroxine; because I began taking it as one tablet of 25mcg....working up to two...then three...and then finally four 25mcg tablets, at which point a blood test told me through my doctor, that my thyroid was now apparently working well. I figured it would be OK for me now to take just one tablet, of 100mcg, rather than four ( was given a choice of both types). So once my 25mcg tablets started running to run out, that's what I did. However, whether I imagined it or not, I found myself happier on the four X 25mcg than the one X 100mcg. Is this normal? Should I worry? I have more or less run out of the 25mcg tablets for the time being...any suggestions what I might be going through, and what I should do?

Are they made by different manufacturers?
If so, then the inactive ingredients and the precise amounts of the medication in them may be slightly different, which could explain your issue.

I myself have a hypothyroidism issue..that I was born with. I am now 36. I take 2 100mg tablets day..... but i used to take one 200mg a day. You may feel better taking the 4 tablets as they will break down and be released into your body slower than taking 1 tablet..the effects of taking 4 tablets.... also last longer, even tho the dose is the same, hope this helps
I am taking just the .50mg., only one a day in the morning and wait half an hour to eat breakfast. At the beginning they had changed my pill a few times until I got to take 100mg, then 88mg. ,But I was gain too much weight and I did ask the doctor to bring it down. He didn't want to bring it down and I told him if he didn't bring it down, I was going to change my doctor. He had no choice but to give me the 50mgs. I am doing fine now. You have to take care of yourself, because you know your own body.
I came on this site because I read that so many people had the same symptoms as me on levothyroxine 100 mcg such as swelling legs ankles and feet. Now im on here and im being shown every thing else but the swelling.
What makes so many people think that thyroid meds are diet pills? Anyone who decides to stop taking them should first do some thorough research on what the purpose of your thyroid is, and what many things that it affects...such as your heart. I have been taking levothyroxine for many years, and my doctor tests to see if I need less or more medication. And I am gaining weight also, but the weight gain has nothing to do with my thyroid. It has to do with the combination of diet and amount of exercise. If you don't follow your doctor's orders, why do you waste your money and his time?
